Lancaster County was carved out of the Camden District in 1785. And from part of it, Kershaw county was formed in 1791. Since the Lancaster County probate records were destroyed in 1865, this is the only basic record left for this valuable county. Deeds are GREAT source for genealogical research due to the many and varied family members that are mentioned. Not only will the reader find the deed transaction itself, but often times such things as: marriages, relinquishment of dower, divisions of family farms among heirs, remarriages of widows are just a few of the matters you can anticipate finding within records of deeds. This second volume abstracts four additional Lancaster County Deed Books. While the abstracted deeds were brought to Lancaster to be recorded between 1774 and 1789, the indentures date from 1711 to 1789, with the majority being executed in the 1774-1785 timeframe. For sundry reasons, citizens often did not bring their deeds to Lancastesr to be recorded. Thus, a transaction from 1748 may not be recorded until 1775, after the property had been sold again. Users should also understand that deeds were recorded in several books simultaneously; hence, there will be overlapping in the dates of recording between volumes in this series. Under the directive of King Louis XVI, he was commissioned to search out and grow new, rare, and never-before-described plant species and ship them back to his homeland in order to improve French forestry, agriculture, and horticulture. He made major botanical discoveries and published them in his two landmark books, Histoire des chênes de l’Amérique (1801), a compendium of all oak species recognized from eastern North America, and Flora Boreali-Americana (1803), the first account of all plants known in eastern North America. Straddling the fields of documentary editing, history of the early republic, history of science, botany, and American studies, André Michaux in North America: Journals and Letters, 1785–1797 is the first complete English edition of Michaux’s American journals. This copiously annotated translation includes important excerpts from his little-known correspondence as well as a substantial introduction situating Michaux and his work in the larger scientific context of the day. To carry out his mission, Michaux traveled from the Bahamas to Hudson Bay and west to the Mississippi River on nine separate journeys, all indicated on a finely rendered, color-coded map in this volume.
