Nous devons trouver de nouveaux moyens pour faciliter les opérations commerciales, régler les différends et mettre en place un environnement juridique sûr en vue de rassurer les partenaires étrangers.

Le cycle d’Uruguay (1986-1993) a été une occasion sans précédent dans l’histoire des relations commerciales internationales de libéraliser les échanges et de redéfinir les règles du jeu applicables à l’accès aux marchés internationaux. Le 1er janvier 1995 l’OMC était créée. Elle succédait au GATT, devenant ainsi la première véritable instance « globale » de régulation des marchés internationaux. Cet ouvrage retrace la genèse de la création de l’OMC et met en perspective les principales caractéristiques et l’évolution du nouveau cadre multilatéral depuis sa création. Il présente les principes de base du système commercial multilatéral et brosse de façon synthétique l’économie des principaux accords multilatéraux issus du cycle d’Uruguay.
