Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Exercises From the Essentials of Chemistry The experiments require only common materials and simple apparatus. The quantities of materials have been stated definitely and accurately. Where possible, the directions call for fractional parts of a test tube, so that unnecessary weighing may be avoided. The test tube meant is the ordinary 5 inch tube found in most laboratories. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. These have been selected in such a way that the student is made familiar with the best and most characteristic examples of technical methods of analysis, and at the same time he obtains a general view of the most important branches of the chemical industry. The contents of this book can be mastered by a diligent and capable student in six months. If, during the progress of the experiments in the laboratory, he makes use of his leisure moments to read through the explanations and remarks attached to the exercises, the purpose for which the book was written have been completely achieved. Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Exercises in Physical Chemistry The laboratory exercises described in this text book are designed to meet the requirements of students who wish to follow a laboratory course dealing with some of the applications of physical chemistry. The experimental work here described is based on the exercises introduced by Dr. R. S. Hutton, in 1900, as a supplement to the course in practical physics which form part of the curriculum of the students in the Honours School of Chemistry in the University of Manchester, in their first and second years' studies. It has been endeavoured, in this collection of exercises dealing with certain branches of chemical physics, to present to chemical students a publication which will for their purpose supplement the text books of Schuster and Lees, on "An Intermediate Course in Practical Physics" (Macmillan & Co.), and "Advanced Exercises in Practical Physics" (Cambridge University Press), and it is expected that students following this work will have already taken one or both of the above courses in pure physics. The field in the borderland between physics and chemistry has grown to dimensions which are now very large and is still rapidly increasing. Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Exercises to Accompany First Principles of Chemistry This Laboratory Manual is designed to accompany the authors' First Principles Of Chemistry. It is, in some measure, founded on Handbook 21 of the State Department of Education Of New York, which was prepared by the authors in the Spring of 1905, and which met with such success as to lead to the writing of the First Principles Of Chemistry. Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Manual of Physical Chemistry In view of the fact that there are, as a rule, available for laboratory work' not more than two and one-half hours at a time, it has been found desirable to have the different pieces of apparatus set up beforehand by the instructor. To this end, each experiment is preceded by an exact list of the appa ratus and chemicals needed. It is believed that this will materi ally aid the instructor in assembling the necessary equipment. At the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the laboratory course immediately follows the completion of the theoretical course in physical chemistry, and students are thus prepared to take up the study of any experiment herein listed. It is therefore found practical to prepare the equipment for one or two units of each exercise before the laboratory course starts, and to shift the student successively from one experiment to another. In this way, an excessive amount of preparatory work is avoided. Many of the experiments have been in use in their present form at this Institute, and elsewhere, for a number of years, and have been found to be thoroughly satisfactory. General Chemistry Laboratory Manual (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: John Charles Blake
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780331016192

Book Description
Excerpt from General Chemistry Laboratory Manual The exercises in this manual are complementary to the author's General Chemistry, Theoretical and Ap plied. The numbering of the chapters and sections follows that of the textbook exactly, as it is expected that students will study both simultaneously. In fact, the exercises can often advantageously precede the corresponding lectures; although in such cases the instructor will find it necessary to give more extended oral instructions at the beginning of the laboratory period than would otherwise be required. Such pre liminary instructions must be given in any event dur ing the early part of the course in order to familiarize the student with the ordinary pieces of apparatus and their manipulation, the regulations and routine of the laboratories and storerooms, and the prescribed system of recording results and submitting them to the in structor for inspection and approval. Oral and written quizzes based on the laboratory work, but involving knowledge of both the laboratory work and the lee tures, will be found helpful. Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Experiments in General Chemistry Frequently the experiments do not furnish sufficient information to enable the student to answer some of the questions and make the explanations that are to appear in his notebook. The necessary information can generally be obtained from the text-book, and it is my plan to have the student use the text-book and laboratory outline as companion volumes in the laboratory. To facilitate the stu dent's progress in this connection page references to two widely used texts have been inserted. My experience goes to show that the student will thus make very efficient use of his time, that he will give care and thought to his work, and that the laboratory work can be successfully made the central feature of instruction in the course. Book Description
Excerpt from Laboratory Exercises in Inorganic Chemistry The experiments to illustrate the properties of metals and their compounds are followed by an outline Of a general method for testing a Simple salt for the metal and acid radical present. The short time available in the first year for qualita tive analysis makes it impossible for the student to master the methods used in the separation of the metallic element's. He can, however, by the Simple procedure outlined learn to identify pure salts. The method described has been found to be an excellent introduction to qualitative analysis.
