Book Description
Excerpt from Collective Agreements Between Employers and Labor Organizations in Massachusetts, 1916 This report, which is Similar in general plan to a report1 issued in 1912, has been prepared for the two-fold purpose of bringing up to date the subject matter of the earlier report and Of indicating, in so far as this can be done by statistical comparisons, the extent of the growth, during the past five years, of the practice of adjusting industrial relations between employers and employees through the instrumentality of joint agreements. It is an established fact that this practice of settling industrial contro versies which inevitably arise has proved mutually advantageous to both parties concerned, and that by promoting, in a very large number of cases, the principles of conciliation and arbitration has contributed greatly toward industrial harmony. While the establishment in all trades of a system of collective agreements between employers and employees would not wholly solve the labor problems of the present day, many of which are due rather to a general spirit of industrial unrest than to any specific cause, nevertheless the general adoption of such system would undoubtedly result in greatly minimizing friction and in rendering more stable and calculable the conditions under which industry is carried on. Labor Injunctions in Massachusetts

Labor Injunctions in Massachusetts PDF Author: Massachusetts Bureau Of Statistics

Category : Law

Pages : 258

Book Description
Excerpt from Labor Injunctions in Massachusetts: With Compilation of Statutes Relating to Labor Disputes, November 1, 1916 This bulletin, which in a sense is supplementary to Labor Bulletins Nos. 70 and 78, issued in 1909 and 1910 respectively, has been prepared with a view to presenting a survey of litigation in labor disputes in this Commonwealth during recent years, including all cases arising in the Superior Court and Supreme Court (single Justice) in Equity, from November 1, 1910, to February 1, 1916, and a complete list of the cases decided by the Supreme Court for the Commonwealth beginning with Commonwealth v. Hunt and including the recent decision of Boyni v. Perotti, amounting in all to 34 cases. The later cases have been given in full, except certain portions of the headnotes and of the text of the decisions which are not of any great importance to the layman as an aid to his understanding of the several cases. Although the title of the bulletin is Labor Injunctions in Massachusetts it will be observed that certain cases which did not arise in equity, but have been decided at common law, have been included. These, however, have been added in order to make the list complete from the point of view of the substantive law, the name being justified on the ground that most of the cases have arisen in the courts of equity. Part I consists of certain explanatory matter relative to the Equity Court from its beginning in England, with the hearing of petitions by the Chancellor, down to the present proceedings, as they are understood to take place in the equity courts of the Commonwealth, and it is hoped that this discussion will serve as an aid to the layman in appreciating the significance of the cases, especially where he may not. Be familiar with the procedure in such cases. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
