C’est dans ces conditions qu’officient médecins et chirurgiens militaires pour prendre en charge les blessés ils actualisent d’anciennes techniques ou innovent et parviennent à reconstruire, à réhabiliter ces visages dévastés par la folie guerrière. Néanmoins, la chirurgie reconstructrice ayant ses limites, la suite du traitement passe par la prothèse maxillo-faciale, ultime recours fonctionnel et esthétique. Cependant, un problème nouveau va apparaître avec ce type de blessé : la réinsertion psychologique et sociale est une véritable épreuve pour les anciens combattants et un obstacle à une réussite complète du traitement.
