En los anos 80, los Estados Unidos declararon la guerra al narcotrafico, adoptando una politica que privilegio la militarizacion de la lucha contra la oferta de drogas. Desde entonces, algunos de los gobiernos de America Latina han adoptado acriticamente este enfoque, el cual ha provocado resultados desastrosos en las sociedades de esos paises y ha corrompido a sus Fuerzas Armadas; sin que el problema del trafico de drogas haya sido resuelto a traves de esta via. Este trabajo analiza la politica de los Estados Unidos frente al problema del narcotrafico y su implementacion en algunos paises de America Latina con el objetivo de mostrar que la militarizacion de la lucha contra el trafico de drogas, no es la politica mas adecuada para hacer frente a esta problematica.
