Ainsi se manifeste-t-il la continuelle mise à l’épreuve de leur identité familiale et personnelle, successivement éclatée, reconstituée sous la contrainte de leurs « tuteurs » sociaux, pour se trouver bientôt, à nouveau, détruite. À travers la suite, apparemment incohérente, de moments de total dénuement, d’accidents et de démêlés avec la justice, on discerne néanmoins les fils rouges d’une tragique continuité : l’irrémédiable dépendance pesant sur ce groupe humain et, parallèlement, l’acharnement des acteurs sociaux à vouloir porter remède à leur pauvreté et enfin la persistance d’une obscure volonté d’exister. De toute évidence, la biographie sociale élaborée par Jean-Pierre Nicolas constitue une mise en demeure adressée à l’ensemble des travailleurs sociaux et tout autant à ceux qui, dans les structures d’action sociale, éducatives et judiciaires exercent des pouvoirs et assument des responsabilités.
