Este trabajo se centrará en dar una visión conjunta de los programas realizados por el Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo (PNUD), como organismo multilateral que opera en el núcleo de las actividades de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) en materia de desarrollo. Se hablará de su plan estratégico 2014-2017, de su trabajo y proyectos que lleva a efecto en asociación, entre otros, con gobiernos e instituciones y donde la mujer aparece como eje fundamental. No obstante, se hará una breve referencia a la historia, antecedentes, órganos e instituciones de las Naciones Unidas a fin de contextualizar el contenido esencial del mismo. Como base fundamental del trabajo del PNUD, se realizará un análisis de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio, resultado de un proceso de movilización sin precedentes que involucra a toda la comunidad internacional para combatir, entre otros problemas, la pobreza y las desigualdades de género. Cerca de la fecha límite para su cumplimiento, se ha iniciado un proceso de reflexión sobre el futuro del desarrollo mundial: la agenda de desarrollo post-2015. Se concluirá dedicando un apartado a ONU Mujeres, entidad que nace con aspiraciones de proteger y fomentar los derechos de las mujeres y las niñas.
