La relación médico-paciente se está distanciando del tradicional modelo paternalista, situándose en un contexto en el que prevalece el respeto a la dignidad del paciente y la autonomía para decidir sobre su cuerpo y su propia vida. Buscamos la humanización, porque nos damos cuenta de la deshumanización. Si algo no funciona bien, es entonces cuando nos preocupamos en buscar soluciones; difícilmente prevemos lo que va a suceder y ponemos en marcha elementos preventivos: nos dejamos sorprender, y a veces ya no existen soluciones. Somos más reactivos que proactivos. No se pretende ser ambicioso, no se quiere soñar sino traer realismo y cosas concretas con sus soluciones posibles, enraizadas en fundamentos sólidos, en doctrinas duraderas aunque no eternas. Se pretende dar luz a estrategias y comportamientos que han perdido su belleza, y precisan ser restauradas para situarse en el lugar que no debieran haber dejado. El ser humano, cuando desea ser considerado como tal, procura estar al servicio de la vida, propia y ajena; situarse en otras coordenadas es actuar por egocentrismo, hedonismo o cualquier otro ismo que deshumaniza, quedando al margen del humanismo.
