Raphaël PINAULT est né en 1923 à Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine). Entré à la SNCF, il y poursuivit une carrière administrative qu'il a terminée en qualité d'Inspecteur Commercial. Il a quatre enfants dont deux filles adoptives (de l'Inde et de la Colombie) et neuf petits-enfants. Retraité depuis 1982 à Rambouillet, il collabore en tant que pigiste au quotidien « l'Echo Républicain ». Membre de la Société Historique et Archéologique de Rambouillet et de l'Yveline, cela lui a facilité ses recherches pour rédiger plusieurs chroniques sur le passé de la ville que son épouse et lui-même ont choisie pour vivre leur retraite. Déjà auteur d'un almanach historique de Rambouillet (pour chaque jour de l'année), Raphaël Pinault souhaite que le présent ouvrage permette au lecteur de découvrir ou de mieux connaître l'Histoire attachante d'une Cité qui eut l'honneur d'être tour à tour résidence appréciée des Seigneurs d'Angennes, du Financier Fleuriau d'Armenonville, de plusieurs Rois, de deux Empereurs et de la plupart des Présidents de la République depuis Félix Faure.
