A set of exercises in French composition, based upon the two texts, has been inserted in the volume. It is hoped that they will prove useful to such students as are anxious to widen and deepen their knowledge of French. A collection Of extracts for sight translation has been included in the volume. The aid necessary to a mastery Of these extracts is given in the form of notices regarding the life and literary position of the various writers, and concise information regarding the source of the selections.
