Power Electronics Semiconductor Devices

Power Electronics Semiconductor Devices PDF Author: Robert Perret
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118623207
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 381

Book Description
This book relates the recent developments in several key electrical engineering R&D labs, concentrating on power electronics switches and their use. The first sections deal with key power electronics technologies, MOSFETs and IGBTs, including series and parallel associations. The next section examines silicon carbide and its potentiality for power electronics applications and its present limitations. Then, a dedicated section presents the capacitors, key passive components in power electronics, followed by a modeling method allowing the stray inductances computation, necessary for the precise simulation of switching waveforms. Thermal behavior associated with power switches follows, and the last part proposes some interesting prospectives associated to Power Electronics integration.

Book Description
CETTE THESE TRAITE D'UNE NOUVELLE CONCEPTION DE LA CONVERSION STATIQUE DE L'ENERGIE ELECTRIQUE, FONDEE SUR UNE RECHERCHE SYSTEMATIQUE DE LA COMMUTATION QUI INDUIT LE MINIMUM DE CONTRAINTES SUR LES INTERRUPTEURS: LA COMMUTATION DOUCE. L'AUTEUR PRECISE D'ABORD UN CERTAIN NOMBRE DE NOTIONS FONDAMENTALES DE L'ELECTRONIQUE DE PUISSANCE ET EN INTRODUISANT LA DUALITE, TANT AU NIVEAU DES STRUCTURES ET DES INTERRUPTEURS QUE DES MECANISMES DE COMMUTATION, IL DONNE UNE DIMENSION SUPPLEMENTAIRE A LA DISCUSSION. L'ANALYSE DES PERFORMANCES D'UNE CLASSE DE CONVERTISSEURS, LES ONDULEURS A RESONANCE, MONTRE QU'ELLES TROUVENT LEURS ORIGINES DANS LES MECANISMES PARTICULIERS DE COMMUTATION DES INTERRUPTEURS QUI POSSEDENT CHACUN UNE COMMUTATION COMMANDEE ET UNE COMMUTATION SPONTANEE. LA COMMUTATION DOUCE EST AINSI MISE EN EVIDENCE AVEC SES AVANTAGES, NOTAMMENT LA REDUCTION DES PERTES ET DE LA POLLUTION DE L'ENVIRONNEMENT DU CONVERTISSEUR. APRES AVOIR DETERMINE LES REGLES D'OBTENTION DE LA COMMUTATION DOUCE, L'AUTEUR PROPOSE UNE APPROCHE NOUVELLE DE LA CONVERSION STATIQUE BASEE SUR L'EXPLOITATION SYSTEMATIQUE DE CE TYPE DE COMMUTATION. LES CONVERTISSEURS A RESONANCE FORMENT LA PRINCIPALE FAMILLE DE CES NOUVEAUX CONVERTISSEURS CONTINU-CONTINU, TOUT D'ABORD NON RESERSIBLES, PUIS REVERSIBLES. IL MONTRE ALORS COMMENT ON PEUT CONCEVOIR LA CONVERSION CONTINU-ALTERNATIF ET DEBOUCHE ENFIN SUR UNE GENERALISATION DU PROCEDE A TOUTES LES FORMES DE CONVERSION. LES MONTAGES PROPOSES SONT ORIGINAUX ET ONT FAIT L'OBJET DE DEPOTS DE BREVETS. APRES AVOIR DONNE LES REGLES DE DIMENSIONNEMENT DE CES NOUVEAUX CONVERTISSEURS, LE MEMOIRE DE THESE SE TERMINE PAR UNE DESCRIPTION DES REALISATIONS INDUSTRIELLES QUI EXPLOITENT DEJA LES RESULTATS DE CETTE ETUDE. DE NOMBREUSES ANNEXES EXPLICITENT CERTAINES METHODES D'ETUDE OU MODES SPECIFIQUES DE COMMANDE

Power Electronic Converters

Power Electronic Converters PDF Author: Guy Seguier
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642503225
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 461

Book Description
This is the final volume in a four-volume series concerning POWER ELEC TRONIC CONVERTERS. The first volume studies AC/DC conversion, the second studies AC/ AC conversion, and the third DC/DC conversion. This final volume deals with DC/AC conversion, i.e. with inverters. At the output of an inverter fed by a DC voltage supply, this voltage is alternatively found with one polarity and then with the other; in other words, an AC voltage made up of square pulses is obtained. Filtering must be carried out if, as is normally the case, a virtually sinusoidal voltage is required: this problem of filtering underlies the entire study of inverters. In some applications, the load itself provides the filtering. In others, a filter is installed between the inverter and the load; however, as it will be shown in Chap. 2, in cases where the filtered voltage is at industrial network frequency and comprises only a single square-wave pulse per half-cycle, the filter becomes bulky and costly, and the results obtained are poor. Filtering problems explain the considerable development of inverters during the last years: - Firstly there is increasing use of pulse width modulation: each half-cycle is cut up into several pulses of suitable widths; this greatly simplifies filtering. The use of a chopping frequency which is much greater than the frequency of the fundamental components of the inverter output voltage and current has only been made possible by progress in the field of semiconductor devices.

Power Quality

Power Quality PDF Author: Gregorio Romero
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9533073357
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 294

Book Description
Nowadays, the increasing use of power electronics equipment origins important distortions. The perfect AC power systems are a pure sinusoidal wave, both voltage and current, but the ever-increasing existence of non-linear loads modify the characteristics of voltage and current from the ideal sinusoidal wave. This deviation from the ideal wave is reflected by the harmonics and, although its effects vary depending on the type of load, it affects the efficiency of an electrical system and can cause considerable damage to the systems and infrastructures. Ensuring optimal power quality after a good design and devices means productivity, efficiency, competitiveness and profitability. Nevertheless, nobody can assure the optimal power quality when there is a good design if the correct testing and working process from the obtained data is not properly assured at every instant; this entails processing the real data correctly. In this book the reader will be introduced to the harmonics analysis from the real measurement data and to the study of different industrial environments and electronic devices.
