Confucian Geopolitics

Confucian Geopolitics PDF Author: Ning An
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811520100
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
This book presents an essential non-western geopolitical landscape and draws on the conceptual framework of critical geopolitics to discuss the views on terrorism held by various groups of Chinese people, including the elite, middle class, and masses. After investigating these views, the book posits that these Chinese geopolitical imaginaries cannot be fully understood using the extant geopolitical theories, including communism, nationalism, and realism. Accordingly, it subsequently seeks to adapt the Confucian geopolitical idea in order to theorize Chinese geopolitics. By doing so, the book reintroduces the historically embedded but long-ignored traditional Chinese political geography philosophies (in particular Confucian thinking) into efforts to explain Chinese geopolitics. In this regard, it promotes a specific and importantly Confucianism-based understanding of international security politics. The geopolitical model provided can also help to explain Chinese views on other major geopolitical issues.

ISBN: 9780500024355
Category : Museum architecture

Pages : 0

Book Description
The new M+ museum of modern and contemporary visual culture will open its permanent new home in the West Kowloon Cultural District of Hong Kong in the autumn of 2021. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the building is set to become a striking landmark on the waterfront of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. But even before the new building opened, M+ has been busy engaging with local and international audiences through a broad range of programmes and exhibitions and a strategic approach to collecting. The opening of M+'s new home is undoubtedly a milestone in the institution's ongoing story, yet it also marks an important moment to reflect on its development to date. The Making of M+ is an immersive visual encounter with the many stages of the museum's evolution. H. G. Masters, the book's guest editor, and Sulki & Min, its award-winning designers, present images and words relating to M+'s first three decades - starting with the reclamation of the land on which the M+ building stands. While the hundreds of images in the book document the programmes, collections, staff, audiences and architecture that have helped shape the museum, the texts have been carefully selected from key moments in the institution's formation, encompassing official pronouncements, staff mantras, public reactions, and snippets from the local and international press. Offering a wide range of perspectives and voices, The Making of M+ is an innovative companion to the creation of a remarkable cultural institution - the first of its kind in Hong Kong and Asia. Innovative and Creative Industries in Hong Kong

Innovative and Creative Industries in Hong Kong PDF Author: Grace L K Leung
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351655019
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 336

Book Description
The experience of Hong Kong’s innovative and creative industries and the challenges they face serves as an important case study for other Chinese and Asian cities that are actively developing their innovative and creative industries in the era of globalization. The return of sovereignty over Hong Kong back to China in 1997 has led to both collaboration and competition between the two places in innovative and creative sectors for the Greater China and Asian Regions. Hong Kong has remained unique in spite of the integration, but she has to strike a delicate balance between being simultaneously a Chinese and an international city. This book looks at different innovative and creative industries, such as international art and culture exhibition, innovative technology, digital entertainment, TV and movies, as well as government policy for innovative and creative industries, particularly the changing competitive landscape brought about by the latest Great Bay Area development. Drawing insights from cultural history, innovation economics, cultural policy studies, and cultural geography, this book explores the opportunities and challenges of Hong Kong's innovative and creative industries, in particular after the change of sovereignty in 1997. It demonstrates that the city’s legacy, and heavy government input in capital, do not guarantee their sustainable development. This is a book not only for policymakers or academics interested in innovative and creative industries but also to students contemplating a career in these areas in Hong Kong, the Greater China and the Asian Region.

Book Description
This insightful book provides a comprehensive survey of urban development in Hong Kong since 1841. Pui-yin Ho explores the ways in which the social, economic and political environments of different eras have influenced the city's development. From colonial governance, wartime experiences, high density development and adjustments before and after 1997 through contemporary challenges, this book explores forward-looking ideas that urban planning can offer to lead the city in the future. Evaluating the relationship between town planning and social change, this book looks at how a local Hong Kong identity emerged in the face of conflict and compromise between Chinese and European cultures. In doing so, it brings a fresh perspective to urban research, providing historical context and direction for the future development of the city. Hong Kong's urban development experience offers not only a model for other Chinese cities but also a better understanding of Asian cities more broadly. Urban studies scholars will find this an exemplary case study of a developing urban landscape.
