Five Children and It

Five Children and It PDF Author: Edith Nesbit

Book Description
The house was three miles from the station, but, before the dusty hired hack had rattled along for five minutes, the children began to put their heads out of the carriage window and say, "Aren't we nearly there?" And every time they passed a house, which was not very often, they all said, "Oh, is this it?" But it never was, till they reached the very top of the hill, just past the chalk-quarry and before you come to the gravel-pit. And then there was a white house with a green garden and an orchard beyond, and mother said, "Here we are!" "How white the house is," said Robert. "And look at the roses," said Anthea. "And the plums," said Jane. "It is rather decent," Cyril admitted. The Baby said, "Wanty go walky;" and the hack stopped with a last rattle and jolt. Everyone got its legs kicked or its feet trodden on in the scramble to get out of the carriage that very minute, but no one seemed to mind. Mother, curiously enough, was in no hurry to get out; and even when she had come down slowly and by the step, and with no jump at all, she seemed to wish to see the boxes carried in, and even to pay the driver, instead of joining in that first glorious rush round the garden and orchard and the thorny, thistly, briery, brambly wilderness beyond the broken gate and the dry fountain at the side of the house. But the children were wiser, for once. It was not really a pretty house at all; it was quite ordinary, and mother thought it was rather inconvenient, and was quite annoyed at there being no shelves, to speak of, and hardly a cupboard in the place. Father used to say that the iron-work on the roof and coping was like an architect's nightmare.

CHRISTEVELT COLLECTION Christevelt Collection has a goal of providing quality children stories written on a foundation of truth so that children can take to heart a message of truth, love, encouragement and respect for others. It is never too early to start reading to a child - and what better thing to pour into them than quality messages that will last a lifetime. Start reading Christevelt Collection stories to infants to plant seeds of truth. Continue to read the stories to them as a toddler to water the seeds of truth and watch them grow. Then as young children, watch them produce fruits of thoughts and questions through productive conversations as they begin to reason and make decisions of their own. CLASSIC TITLES INCLUDED IN THIS VOLUME: Humpty Dumpty Inside Out places emphasis where it should be...on the inside. Using the story of Humpty Dumpty, this story can be used to remind children of the importance of having a good heart and right motives. We all might end up with scars from some of life's falls, but we can still smile from the inside out. Itsy Bitsy's Friend, Witsy tells a simple story of perseverance. Perseverance might not be a word kids know, but hopefully it will be a concept they understand early on. Storms, rainy days and failures are not optional in life, but perseverance and a positive attitude are. Twinkle, Twinkle My Little Star tells a simple story of great importance. Regardless of whether they are super stars or little stars, the children in our lives need to hear they are important and loved. Using the familiar Twinkle Twinkle Little Star rhyme, the principles found in this fun story are easier for children to remember now and in the future. The Little Lamb is a great reminder that Mary was not the only one who had a little lamb. Whether children are following us or others, like their older siblings, we all have little lambs in our lives. Using the familiar Mary Had A Little Lamb rhyme, the principles found in this fun story are easier for children to remember now and in the future as they lead and follow others. Sticks, Stones & Words are often related together in the phrase, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." But actually, all three things were meant for good. Use this story to remind children of the impact sticks, stones and words can have in a positive way.
