Language Typology

Language Typology PDF Author: Alice Caffarel
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 902729495X
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 718

Book Description
This book is intended as a systemic functional contribution to language typology both for those who would like to understand and describe particular languages against the background of generalizations about a wide range of languages and also for those who would like to develop typological accounts that are based on and embody descriptions of the systems of particular languages (rather than isolated constructions). The book is a unique contribution in at least two respects. On the one hand, it is the first book based on systemic functional theory that is specifically concerned with language typology. On the other hand, the book combines the particular with the general in the description of languages: it presents comparable sketches of particular languages while at the same time identifying generalizations based on the languages described here as well as on other languages. The volume explores eight languages, covering seven language families: French, German, Pitjantjatjara, Tagalog, Telugu, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese.

Transformation After Lausanne

Transformation After Lausanne PDF Author: Al Tizon
Publisher: OCMS
ISBN: 9781870345682
Category : Church and social problems
Languages : en
Pages : 314

Book Description
"Lausanne '74 inspired evangelicals around the world to take seriously the full implications of the Gospel for mission. This was especially true of a worldwide network of radical evangelical mission theologians and practitioners, whose post-Lausanne reflections found harbour in the notion of "Mission as Transformation". This missiology integrated evangelism and social concern like no other, and it lifted up theological voices coming from the Two Thirds World to places of prominence. This book documents the definitive gatherings, theological tensions, and social forces within and without evangelicalism that led up to Mission as Transformation. And it does so through a global-local grid that points the way toward greater holistic mission in the 21st century."--BOOK JACKET.

Liberation Theologies on Shifting Grounds

Liberation Theologies on Shifting Grounds PDF Author: Georges de Schrijver
Publisher: Peeters Publishers
ISBN: 9789042903029
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 484

Book Description
Besides their insistence on praxis and the application of the Word of God to a given situation, Liberation Theologies make ample use of tools of analysis to uncover root causes of oppression. Now, it is precisely with respect to these tools that Liberation Theologies today find themselves on shifting grounds. In intra-ecclesiastical circles cultural concerns have come to replace socio-economic analysis, whereas after the implosion of the East Bloc the liberationists proper also pay more attention to the issues of gender, ecology, and indigenous movements. The contributions to this volume, originating from various continents, discuss to what extent this shift in emphasis is desirable, and acceptable, and conclude that the cultural focus cannot possibly invalidate but only enrich and complete the socio-economic analysis. They, moreover, try to assess the developments in light of globalization (economics, informatics), on the one hand, and postmodernity on the other. Given the impact of western culture politics, the question arises as to whether the native cultures will succeed in keeping up their religious core values and structures of solidarity - two elements so indispensable for liberative commitments.

Spirit Guide Contact Through Hypnosis

Spirit Guide Contact Through Hypnosis PDF Author: Bruce Goldberg
Publisher: Red Wheel/Weiser
ISBN: 1564147975
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 255

Book Description
Contacting spirit guides is as old as civilization itself. Shamans dating back to at least 50,000 B.C. ritualistically contacted nonphysical entities. The Mystery Schools of Ancient Egypt, Greece, Persia, Rome, and India also dealt with contacting spirit guides. Every major religion acknowledges the reality of discarnate entities or spirits, whether they are called saints, angels, the Holy Spirit, and so on. One of the purposes of this book is to demystify this process. The media's depiction of spirit contact has led to the false assumption that anyone who establishes this contact must be in great danger. In reality, this communication is natural, relatively simple, and a wonderful growth experience. Spirit communication removes the fear of death and bereavement, and results in a form of spiritual empowerment. Contacting your spirit guides can help us: Develop your intuition and other psychic abilities. Increase your ability to love yourself and others. Become more aware of the workings of the universe. Establish better contact with your own Masters and Guides and Higher Self to facilitate your own spiritual evolution. Protect you from negative entities and/or other forces in the universe. Access the wisdom of the ancients. Establish and maintain your own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Overcome bad habits and fears. Eliminate the fear of death. See into the future. Master the art of out-of-body experiences. Learn your true karmic purpose. Spirit Guide Contact Through Hypnosis includes free audio companion downloads.
