Excerpt from Juvenile-Court Statistics, 1931: Based on Information Supplied by 92 Courts, Fifth Annual Report During that year reports of cases of children dealt with by the juvenile courts were received from all the courts in Connecticut (89 courts) and Utah (8 courts) and from 71 courts in 21 other States and the District of Columbia. The State of Connecticut was added to the reporting area, and several other changes occurred in the list of cooperating courts. Five courts serving areas with more than 100, 000 2estimated population1 and 3 serving a somewhat smaller group? Were added, and 18 courts serving areas with smaller populations discontinued reporting. These changes are in accord with the program of the Children's Bureau to encourage State-wide reporting through a State agency, usually the department of public welfare, tand to gcontinue to develop the reporting to the Bureau of individual cases only from courts serving large urban communities, which report in greater detail than the States are prepared to request from all courts, at least at present. Excerpt from Juvenile-Court Statistics, 1930, Vol. 4: Based on Information Supplied by 92 Courts Ninety-two courts sent in statistical data for the entire calendar year 1930, as compared with 96 courts for 1929, 65 for 1928, and 43 for 1927 1 The names of the 92 courts reporting for 1930, with the largest city or town in the area Served by each court, are given in the appendix (p. For convenience each court will be designated in all other places only by the territory over which it has jurisdiction. The cooperating courts reported delinquency cases, dependency and neglect cases, 933 cases of special proceedings,2 and cases of children discharged from supervision.3 The number of cases reported by. Each court for the year is shown in Table 1. Although all the courts have jurisdiction over delinquency cases and also over dependency and neglect cases, 8 courts reported delinquency cases only and 4 reported dependency and neglect cases only. There fore 88 of the courts reported cases of delinquency and 84 reported cases of dependency and neglect. Cases of special proceedings were reported by 33 courts, and 62 courts (exclusive of New York City 3) reported cases of children discharged from supervision. These figures representing the number of courts reporting each type of case will be used in the summary tables and discussion in this report.
