Peu à peu, les deux humains vont se lier d'amitié. Basil sera invité à dormir et à manger chez le père de Tom qui aime les papillons. Le père de Tom, ce dernier et Basil vont même rencontrer le maire de la vallée pour protéger la nature et Basil ne sera plus aussi grincheux à cause de ses rhumatismes. Une jolie histoire qui illustre l'importance du vivre-ensemble, de l'inclusion des plus faibles et de la protection et l'action en faveur de la biodiversité.
