The Rainbow & Women in Love

The Rainbow & Women in Love PDF Author: D. H. Lawrence
Publisher: e-artnow
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 848

Book Description
"The Rainbow" tells the story of three generations of the Brangwen family, a dynasty of farmers and craftsmen who live in the east Midlands of England, on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. The book covers a period from the 1840s to 1905, and shows how the love relationships of the Brangwens change against the backdrop of the increasing industrialization of Britain. The first central character, Tom Brangwen, is a farmer whose experience of the world does not stretch beyond these two counties; while the last, Ursula, his granddaughter, studies at university and becomes a teacher in the progressively urbanized, capitalist and industrial world. "Women in Love" is a sequel to novel The Rainbow, and follows lives of the Brangwen sisters, Ursula a schoolteacher, and Gudrun a painter. They meet two men who live nearby, school inspector Rupert Birkin and Gerald Crich, heir to a coal-mine, and the four become friends. Ursula and Birkin begin a romantic friendship, while Gudrun and Gerald eventually begin a love affair. The emotional relationships thus established are given further depth and tension by an intense psychological and physical attraction between Gerald and Rupert. All four are deeply concerned with questions of society, politics, and the relationship between men and women. The novel ranges over the whole of British society before the time of the First World War and eventually concludes in the snows of the Tyrolean Alps.

Raising My Rainbow

Raising My Rainbow PDF Author: Lori Duron
Publisher: Crown
ISBN: 0770437729
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 290

Book Description
Raising My Rainbow is Lori Duron’s frank, heartfelt, and brutally funny account of her and her family's adventures of distress and happiness raising a gender-creative son. Whereas her older son, Chase, is a Lego-loving, sports-playing boy's boy, Lori's younger son, C.J., would much rather twirl around in a pink sparkly tutu, with a Disney Princess in each hand while singing Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." C.J. is gender variant or gender nonconforming, whichever you prefer. Whatever the term, Lori has a boy who likes girl stuff—really likes girl stuff. He floats on the gender-variation spectrum from super-macho-masculine on the left all the way to super-girly-feminine on the right. He's not all pink and not all blue. He's a muddled mess or a rainbow creation. Lori and her family choose to see the rainbow. Written in Lori's uniquely witty and warm voice and launched by her incredibly popular blog of the same name, Raising My Rainbow is the unforgettable story of her wonderful family as they navigate the often challenging but never dull privilege of raising a slightly effeminate, possibly gay, totally fabulous son. Category : Young Adult Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 296

Book Description
Robin Rainbow is a contemporary work of fiction written for young adults. The discovery of a casket that contains a map with a riddle sends Robin and his school friends on a quest that leads them to encounter the ever-present forces of Evil that lurk everywhere. Dramatic turning-points that include their capture, escape, recapture, their rescue via celestial beings and their return to ‘everyday reality, dictate the novel’s narrative arc. When at war with the powers of evil, concern at their disappearance from home and school soon becomes global. To find the missing children, huge rewards are offered that tempt bounty-hunters from across the world. Their disappearance is taken more seriously than any illegal invasion of another country or outbreak of Covid-19 and its variants or any alleged alien abduction! Conversational in style, the text both challenges and entertains. The element of surprise, a deep thirst for adventure, the search for knowledge and happiness sustain the reader’s interest throughout.

Winning Balance

Winning Balance PDF Author: Shawn Johnson
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.
ISBN: 1414374372
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 274

Book Description
At age 20, American gymnast Shawn Johnson is a four-time Olympic gold and silver medalist; a national- and world-champion athlete. Already a popular role model to all ages, in 2009 she captured the national spotlight again when she won the widely popular Dancing with the Stars. Yet Shawn is no stranger to hard work and adversity. Her loss of the major gymnastics prize everyone expected her to win in Beijing, the all-around Olympic gold medal, was the loss of a dream she’d worked for since childhood. And later, she suffered a staggering injury in a skiing accident that forced her life to a halt and made her rethink what was really important. She wasn’t sure who she was anymore. She wasn’t sure what her goals were. And she wasn’t sure she was satisfied with where she was with her faith and God. Could she find the right kind of success in life—the kind that doesn’t involve medals or trophies, but peace, love, and lasting joy? This is the amazing true journey of how the young woman who won an Olympic gold medal on the balance beam became even more balanced.
