Roots as Treasurer of the Diocese; and also the vote of the Council for P. K. Uoots as Trustee of the Episcopate Fund. The Committee on Constitution and Canons reported through their Chairman, Rev. C. A. Bruce, that there was nothing before them which required the attention and consideration of the Council. The Committee on New Parishes reported through their Chairman, the Rev. D. McManus, that there was no work for said Committee at the present Council. The election of Standing Committee being in order, the following Clergy and Laity were duly elected by ballot: The Uev. T. C. Tapper, the Rev. C. A. Bruce, the Rev. R. W. Trimble, LL. D., Messrs. Fay Hempstead, P. 0. Thweatt. The "Rev. Mr. Bruce and the Rev. Mr. Tnpper brought before the Council the pressing needs of the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee, and the obligation of the Diocese of Arkansas to do her share--the duty of the Church in this Diocese (owning, as she does, one-tenth interest in the property of the University, and having an equal share in the entire control and management of the Institution) to pay her quota of the expenses, for the benefit of the Theological Department thereof, etc. Whereuodn the Rev. Dr. H. W. D., 1883 April 30 - Sunday, the third after Easter. In Trinity Church, Pine Bluff, I said the morning and evening services, and preached twice. The offertory, amounting to I donated to Diocesan Missions. May 7 - Sunday, the fourth after Easter. In St. Luke's Church, Hot Springs, I assisted in saying service twice, morn ing and night, and preached twice. May 8 - Attended morning sex-vice at St. Luke's Church. At night began a very heavy rain, which flooded the valley and interrupted travel on the Hot Springs and Malvern, and on the Iron Mountain Railroads, for about ten days. For nearly a week we had not even telegraphic communication with the world without. May I4 - Sunday, the fifth after Easter. In St. Luke's Church, Hot Springs, I assisted in saying morning service and preached. At night I preached again; confirmed five persons, and addressed the newly confirmed.
