Book Description
Excerpt from John Amos Comenius: Bishop of the Moravians, His Life and Educational Works IN issuing the second edition of this book it occurs to me to say that it is possible that a critical mind examining any one of Comenius's writings might here and there take exception to my statement of his Opinions. It is therefore necessary to explain that wherever the opinions expressed by Comenius in any of his Treatises was subsequently modified, I have given his final views. For the rest, I can only repeat what I stated in the preface to the first edition, that this book is the most complete - so far as I know the only complete - account of Comenius and his works that exists in any language. I have gone carefully through the four volumes of his didactic writings, containing 2271 pages of Latin, good, bad, and indifferent. The German translation of one of the treatises has also been before me. The life is written, like the rest of the book, entirely from a collation of original sources; but I do not endeavour to give an account of Comenius's ecclesiastical relations. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
