Helium Nano-bubble Formation in Tungsten

Helium Nano-bubble Formation in Tungsten PDF Author: Matt Thompson
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319960113
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
This PhD thesis characterises the damage that occurs in tungsten when it is exposed to a fusion-like environment. The book presents pioneering work on the use of grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) to measure nano-bubble formation in tungsten exposed to helium plasma. The phenomenon of nanoscale bubble formation within metals during helium plasma exposure can lead to undesirable changes in the material properties, such as complex nanoscale surface modification or a reduction in thermal conductivity. As a result of this work, it is now possible to quantify how nanobubble behaviour changes within different materials, and under different plasma conditions. In 2015 the author published the first GISAXS study of helium-induced nanobubble formation in tungsten, demonstrating the viability of using GISAXS for this work. This paper has generated significant interest from the international fusion community and was selected as one of the highlights for the journal Nuclear Fusion.

Innovative Materials and Techniques for Osteochondral Repair

Innovative Materials and Techniques for Osteochondral Repair PDF Author: Horea Rareș Ciprian Benea
Publisher: Materials Research Forum LLC
ISBN: 164490053X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 184

Book Description
The book presents research in treating focal joint cartilage defects. Lipoaspirate fluid (LAF) cells have important applications in such areas as orthopedics, general surgery, plastic and repair or vascular surgery. Also discussed are cartilage tissue regeneration therapies using collagen scaffolds and multipotent mesenchymal cells; this offers the possibility of making real "biological arthroplasties". The regeneration of cartilage tissue by injecting stem cell concentrates gives hope to patients suffering from cartilage degradation. Keywords: Biomaterials, Osteochondral Repair, Lipoaspirate Fluid (LAF) Cells, Arthrosis, Focal Joint Cartilage Defects, Physiopathology of Cartilage Lesions, Diagnosis of Cartilage Lesions, Treatment of Cartilage Lesions, Plastic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Repair Surgery, Orthopedics, Biological Arthroplasties.
