Book Description
If you are a good Java programmer who wants to become an excellent Java application developer, this book and companion CD-ROM are for you. This book contains 64 chapters written by 18 leading Java experts on Java technologies. Originally compiled by Don Denoncourt as a personal resource to help him develop and code Java applications for his consulting business, iSeries and AS/400 JavaTM at Work contains all the essential information Denoncourt has gleaned from his years as the editor of AS/400 NetJava Expert, a on time contributor to Midrange Computing, and an award-winning seminar speaker. I consider this book to be my secondary storage device for Java technology, says Denoncourt. It is an extension of my Java capabilities, and it could be the same for you. This is not a book for the beginner Java programmer. Rather, it is the definitive second-tier education for Java programmers. Many know the language; those who succeed will know how to make the language work in a business environment. This book will show you how the experts are getting it done. Java is a pervasive technology today. iSeries and AS/400 shops are clamoring for Java expertise so that they can modernize their business applications and build their Web presence. Businesses need Java programmers who can use their skills to contribute real value as application developers. Successful Java programmers need more than basic Java programming skills; they need a strong grasp of business--real-world tools to develop robust applications. There has never been a better time to build your Java skills, and there has never been a better resource to help you do it than iSeries and AS/400 Java at Work

Big Blue Java PDF Author: Daniel Worden
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 596

Book Description
A comprehensive programmer's guide to developing sophisticated web-enabled applications with Java IBM has products in more than two-thirds of the existing commercial systems installations in the world. Over the next several years many of these systems will need to be accessible through the Internet, intranets, and extranets. IBM has chosen Java as the strategic technology for making all of their products ready for e-business. This book describes the Java tools available from IBM and explains how to use them to create Java-based applications. Worden details the challenges and techniques used to implement these technologies and shows you how these products can solve real-world application problems. Covering strategic as well as technical issues, Big Blue Java briefly introduces the emergence of Java and e-commerce at "Big Blue," IBM. The author then provides in-depth discussions on development tools, server products such as WebSphere Advanced and Enterprise, business and object modeling, the SanFrancisco Java framework, and Visual Age for Java as development environments. Also evaluated are the features and functions of the product suite offered by IBM, to help you find the right software for your e-business requirements. Inside you'll find: * Details of the IBM Java product development rationale and process * Key features of the IBM Java tool suite * Explanation of the role of related object tools including Rational Rose * Sample application models * In-depth description of the SanFrancisco environment The CD-ROM contains: * Sample code from the book * Visual Age for Java forms * Servlet samples * Rational Rose models * IBM support material

Advanced Programming for the Java 2 Platform

Advanced Programming for the Java 2 Platform PDF Author: Calvin Austin

Book Description
Choice Outstanding Academic Title, 2008. The uniqueness of shape as a perceptual property lies in the fact that it is both complex and structured. Shapes are perceived veridically—perceived as they really are in the physical world, regardless of the orientation from which they are viewed. The constancy of the shape percept is the sine qua nonof shape perception; you are not actually studying shape if constancy cannot be achieved with the stimulus you are using. Shape is the only perceptual attribute of an object that allows unambiguous identification. In this first book devoted exclusively to the perception of shape by humans and machines, Zygmunt Pizlo describes how we perceive shapes and how to design machines that can see shapes as we do. He reviews the long history of the subject, allowing the reader to understand why it has taken so long to understand shape perception, and offers a new theory of shape. Until recently, shape was treated in combination with such other perceptual properties as depth, motion, speed, and color. This resulted in apparently contradictory findings, which made a coherent theoretical treatment of shape impossible. Pizlo argues that once shape is understood to be unique among visual attributes and the perceptual mechanisms underlying shape are seen to be different from other perceptual mechanisms, the research on shape becomes coherent and experimental findings no longer seem to contradict each other. A single theory of shape perception is thus possible, and Pizlo offers a theoretical treatment that explains how a three-dimensional shape percept is produced from a two-dimensional retinal image, assuming only that the image has been organized into two-dimensional shapes. Pizlo focuses on discussion of the main concepts, telling the story of shape without interruption. Appendixes provide the basic mathematical and computational information necessary for a technical understanding of the argument. References point the way to more in-depth reading in geometry and computational vision.

Java 3D Programming

Java 3D Programming PDF Author: Daniel Selman
Publisher: Manning Publications
ISBN: 9781930110359
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 404

Book Description
Java 3D Programming steps programmers through the important design and implementation phases of developing a successful Java 3D application. The book provides invaluable guidance on whether to use Java 3D, user interface design, geometry creation, scene manipulation and final optimizations. The book does not attempt to exhaustively cover the API or replicate the official documentation but rather serves as a roadmap to alert programmers of design issues and potential pitfalls. The author distills 12 months of using the Java 3D API for commercial projects, as well as innumerable discussions on the Java 3D email list into a book that all Java 3D developers will appreciate. Experienced Java 3D developers will applaud an authoritative resource containing the state-of-the-art in techniques and workarounds, while novice Java 3D programmers will gain a fast-track into Java 3D development, avoiding the confusion, frustration and time wasted learning Java 3D techniques and terminology. Java 3D Programming comes complete with a comprehensive set of programming examples to illustrate the techniques, features, workarounds and bug fixes contained in the main text. Readers of this book would include students and postgraduate researchers developing visualization applications for academia. Moderately experienced in Java, some experience of 3D graphics, little or no experience of Java 3D is needed. R+D s/w engineers at commercial institutions. Experienced Java developers, experienced with OpenGL or VRML, little or no experience with Java 3D.
