Chiefly, a record of descendants and some ancestors of James Stuart (1769-ca. 1843) and Mary Matthews (1772-ca. 1859). James was born in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Mary was born in Guilford County, North Carolina. They were married in 1793 in Mecklenburg County. They had twelve children. Although James and Mary's ancestors came from Scotland and Ireland, their descendants lived in Alabama, Massachusetts, Delaware, Virginia, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi and elsewhere.
