Simply Good News
Author: Tom Wright
Publisher: SPCK
ISBN: 028107304X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 180
Book Description
The Gospel means good news, but what makes it news? If the message has been around for 2,000 years, what could possibly be newsworthy about it? And what makes it good? Surely not the stories we hear of damnation, violence, and an angry God. Tom Wright believes many Christians have lost sight of what the ‘good news’ of the gospel really is. In Simply Good News, he shows how a first-century audience would have received the gospel message, what the ‘good news’ means for us today and how it can transform our lives.

Author: Alnoor Rajan Talwar
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 144906647X
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 194
Book Description
Rajan Talwar's book is not simply an individual's journey through the trials of living with Multiple Sclerosis. It is a discourse between a thinking, reflective being with his world. It is a discourse on life, not in any abstract fashion, but in the very real essence of living each day to its fullest. His sense of humour prevails even in his darkest moments of anger and despair, as he punctuates some of the most painful moments of his life with this humour. Every chapter contains a positive lesson from a negative circumstance. The question of self growth for the author is linked to the inexorable condition of the disease that holds him captive. Boustan Hirji - Dawson College Unique, self-told story of pain, courage and triumph. A candid account of the real turbulences of life. Informative of treatments that the medical profession considers 'Witchcraft' Passionately written. Refreshingly honest, open and sensitive. The author invites us to his world of MS and takes us on an intimate tour of his fears, hopes, despair, strengths. On this tour, we encounter our own innermost being; we find reflected in his world our own world. We find the echoes of our own questions, and we question our responses to the world we all live in. He provides us with the lens through which to view his world and we find that this lens is indeed a reflection of our own world. In this sense his world of MS is indeed our world and MS is then our metaphor for the calamities of our lives. This is one man's journey of coming to terms with his reality and it can only inspire us and help us to come to terms with our own reality. A must read for every thinking, feeling, and struggling person! Zeenat Shariff Aga Khan University

All have a profound effect upon Christy, as do three men - Paul, a considerate neighbor whom the police claim is a criminal; her homosexual 'soul-mate, ' Phil; and Joe who doesn't believe in platonic friendships. An absorbing but pitifully-paying job makes saving for the next leg of her journey harder than anticipated. With her simple plan in jeopardy, she must make a difficult choice - to return to the land of her birth, continue with her journey, or make America her home. Christy tells her story with humor and with empathy for the friends who color and enrich a life that is very different to the sheltered existence she had once known.

Just For Today
Author: Frankie Lee Bass
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1493182099
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 263
Book Description
Jimmy Lee Snow, A.K.A. Bobby Williams, is not just your average bank robber and jewelry thief; he is also a highly skilled and somewhat lucky escape artist. As he narrowly frees himself from a maximum-security institution, for a second time, he meets some interesting characters along the way that advertently or inadvertently aid in his freedom. Once on the run, he certainly breaks the law to acquire cash, a car and a new identity. Because he’s oddly likable and not really violent, you seem to root for this lawbreaker, despite the fact you know he deserves to be caught and put back into the system. As you read further, you know Jimmy Lee isn’t your typical criminal. One of the many characters he encounters along the way is a hooker. Yet the only thing he wants from her is a new identity. This would normally be quite odd coming from a guy who just left prison after ten years! He then picks up two runaways and convinces them to go back home, where he even funds the bus ride. This begins to show Jimmy Lee’s odd sense of integrity. (By the way, we soon find out why he was “saving himself.”) Part two begins with his true passion; Veronica Lin Brooks, a teacher and soon-to-be partner on the run. The back story is interesting and seemingly unbelievable at times, but the reader can certainly see her attraction to this likable escapee. As the adventure unfolds you find yourself wanting to lecture her and root for them, all at the same time. As the FBI and detectives search for them, you can feel all their desperation and exhaustion. It finally concludes with an unexpected ending, but stranger things have happened.

The Closer
Author: Cal Ripken Jr.
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
ISBN: 1484729048
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 278
Book Description
The final book in the out-of-the-park series by legendary short-stop and a veteran sportswriter Cal Ripkin. Danny Connolly is a back-up pitcher with the Dulaney Orioles. He knows what that means: not good enough to start. When he does get into games, he hasn't exactly been the shut-down reliever the team needs. To make matters worse, he's playing in the shadow of his older brother, Joey, a lights-out high school lefty with a 90-mph fastball who's attracting lots of attention from college recruiters and major league scouts. It's bad enough that Danny's parents seem to fawn over Joey and barely talk about what Danny does in his games. But now, as his big brother's mound exploits draw more and more attention, Danny's starting to get the why-aren't-you-as-good-as-Joey comments from the Orioles, too. The pressure to live up to Joey's success is stifling. Lonely and frustrated, Danny embarks on a secret project designed to make his family and teammates sit up and take notice. Aided by a mysterious stranger with an uncanny knowledge of the aerodynamics of a thrown baseball, he attempts to learn a new pitch. A pitch no one has ever seen before. The clock is ticking on Danny as the O's try to repeat as league champions. But if his audacious plan works and he can master the magical fluttering pitch known as "The Terminator," he'll soon be the talk of the league -- and the dependable closer the Orioles desperately need.

If God Intended the Sabbath, Why Did He Create Home Ownership?
Author: Ronald Citron
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1490870040
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 246
Book Description
Why do we waste the Sabbath? Travel through time for the ways home ownership just seems to prevent us from enjoying this holy day of rest. The intention is not to preach; this is not a scholarly religious book. Rather, If God Intended the Sabbath, Why Did He Create Home Ownership? explores why this day of the week should be designated as a day of rest and introspection. Take this soul-searching, sometimes-poignant, sometimes-humorous, but always personal trip through the years. Take an insightful, prophetic, and wistful venture through the events causing lost Sabbaths. Questions are raised: why do we have to do our home projects on the Sabbath, and which aspects of home ownership rob us of this special day? Sometimes, the deed is thrust upon us, such as when the roof leaks during a stormy weekend. At times, we thrust the deed upon ourselves, such as installing outside lights or repairing a creaky floor. Delve into this book for a journey through Sabbaths lost with hope for the future where this day can be held precious.
