Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 161
Book Description
How do you forgive when the wound is still open? People often ask Sarah, "How did you forgive your alcoholic mother?” How do you forgive someone who carelessly brushed aside your pain, who caused such destruction, and who doesn’t show remorse? How do you know when to stay and when to go? In The Complicated Heart, you will travel through Sarah's story with her, from age 14 and beyond, as she wrestles with these very questions. Prepare yourself: she holds nothing back. If you’ve struggled with a difficult relationship, if you’ve felt torn-up and crazy and confused because of it, if you just want to know how to move forward and be okay, this story is for you. Dysfunction does not have to be your destiny or your identity. Victory is on the table. What's more: you’ll not only travel with Sarah, you’ll travel with her mom as well as you read her mom’s journal entries and letters. What goes on in the mind of the person who hurt you the most? In this story, you’ll get a rare peek into that mind and heart. In these pages you'll be reminded that light always finds a way in, even in the deepest darkness, and redemption and joy are possible in the midst of trauma and unmet needs. If you want to learn how to forgive when your wound is still open, heal when circumstances don't change, and become a generational bondage-breaker, The Complicated Heart is for you. And if not for you, for someone you know. Pass it along.

Social Lives

Pages : 333
Book Description
Step into picture-perfect Wilshire, home to some of the most privileged people in the world, where one woman's desperate act could bring the precariously balanced social order crashing down... Wilshire, Connecticut, the gilded enclave of Manhattan's prosperous elite, appears to be a vision of suburban tranquility: the mansions are tastefully designed, the lawns are expertly manicured, and the streets are as hushed as the complexities in the residents' lives. While Wilshire's husbands battle each other in the financial world, their wives manage their estates and raise the next elite generation. Some women are envied, some respected, and others simply tolerated. But regardless of where they stand, each woman is defined by the world she inhabits and bound by the unyielding social structure that surrounds her. Rosalyn Barlow, the most envied woman in Wilshire, is waging a battle of social manipulation to silence the scandalous gossip that threatens her daughter's reputation while her self-made billionaire husband grows more and more distant in his young retirement. But for fourteen year-old Caitlin Barlow, navigating life as a teenager in a culture of wealth and sexual promiscuity has become far more perilous than either of her parents knows. Newcomer Sarah Livingston has nothing but disdain for everyone and everything around her and a growing terror at having another child in a world she's come to resent. As she is pulled into the Barlow family's storm, the walls begin to close in around her marriage and the life she once thought she wanted. And for Jacqueline Halstead, who's just discovered her husband is under investigation for fraud surrounding his hedge fund, saving her family from total ruin means doing the unthinkable - and shaking the Barlow family, Wilshire's insular community, and herself to the core.

My Complicated Yet Wonderful Life
Author: Terri Spitzer
Publisher: Page Publishing Inc
ISBN:
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 164
Book Description
This is a story about a young girl who was born in 1962 and grew up in a small suburb in Denver, Colorado. She had an older brother and sister and a younger sister. She differed from her siblings in that as a child, she had endless amounts of energy and enthusiasm and wanted to learn and do as much as she could academically and athletically. She was a quick learner and always had high expectations for herself, not to be a show-off but to prove to herself that she could do it. She preferred to play sports with her brother, who was six years older than her, and he was not afraid to show her some of the hard knocks of playing football or baseball. She was willing to take whatever it took to be able to play. When she was four years old, her mother had taken her grandmother to visit a friend. While they waited, her mother taught her to memorize the Pledge of Allegiance. She loved to learn and could not wait to go to school. In elementary school, she had a wonderful first-grade teacher who taught her and other children reading skills that allowed them to read at higher levels. By second grade, they were all reading at the seventh-grade level. As she went through elementary school, she would be studying in all subjects the higher level of courses. As she entered junior high school, she knew that the classes would be more difficult and that there would be a lot more homework. She was able to keep up with the work, and in the fall, she signed up for the basketball team. She loved playing at a higher level and meeting some new friends. By Christmastime, she began to have less energy and noticed that she was a little more tired than usual. As spring approached, she signed up for the track team. She was never much of a runner, but she thought it would help her get in shape. Over spring break, she would try and practice running 100-yard dashes and would notice how difficult it was and how tired it would make her. She participated in most of the track meets and, toward the end of April, started developing an open sore on her right forearm. Early in May, her fatigue was getting worse. The sore on her arm was not healing, and she began running a fever. She would miss over two weeks of school, and one day, her fever went up to 105 degrees, and they took her to the doctor, who gave her a shot of penicillin. It slowly brought the temperature down to 101-102. The sore on her arm continued to get worse, and her level of endurance kept going down. On Friday, her mom had her go back to school, even though her temperature was still 101 degrees, and she wrapped her arm up. Her mom, who worked for a doctor, picked her up from school and took her to have blood drawn. She would go to work with her mom on Monday, and he would have the results of the blood work and examine her. She had no idea about what she was about to find out or what would lie ahead of her.
