Expanding the Lexicon

Expanding the Lexicon PDF Author: Sabine Arndt-Lappe
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110498162
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
The creation of new lexical units and patterns has been studied in different research frameworks, focusing on either system-internal or system-external aspects, from which no comprehensive view has emerged. The volume aims to fill this gap by studying dynamic processes in the lexicon – understood in a wide sense as not being necessarily limited to the word level – by bringing together approaches directed to morphological productivity as well as approaches analyzing general types of lexical innovation and the role of discourse-related factors. The papers deal with ongoing changes as well as with historical processes of change in different languages and reflect on patterns and specific subtypes of lexical innovation as well as on their external conditions and the speakers’ motivations for innovating. Moreover, the diffusion and conventionalization of innovations will be addressed. In this way, the volume contributes to understanding the complex interplay of structural, cognitive and functional factors in the lexicon as a highly dynamic domain.

The Black Art

The Black Art PDF Author: Lee Richards
Publisher: www.psywar.org
ISBN: 0954293622
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 451

Book Description
As well as the open propaganda of the British Government produced during the Second World War, like the foreign language radio broadcasts of the BBC and the aerial propaganda leaflets dropped by the RAF over Occupied Europe, a secret underground propaganda battle was also fought. ‘The Black Art’ documents this history of Britain’s clandestine psychological warfare conducted against the Nazi’s Third Reich. This black propaganda was the work of several secret intelligence organisations including the Political Warfare Executive and Special Operations Executive. Using previously undiscovered primary source material ‘The Black Art’ charts the progress of and catalogues the range of propaganda leaflets covertly distributed across Occupied Europe and beyond to subvert the morale of German soldiers and civilians. The propaganda included such ruses as malingering instructions to fake the symptoms of illness, tips for desertion to neutral countries, parody postage stamps, advice on sabotaging a U-boat, counterfeit ration coupons, identity documents and newspapers plus numerous other falsely attributed leaflets and stickers. Over 350 illustrations are included.

Le Avventure di Oliver Twist Italian-English

Le Avventure di Oliver Twist Italian-English PDF Author: Charles Dickens
Publisher: tredition
ISBN: 3347980255
Category : Juvenile Nonfiction
Languages : de
Pages : 163

Book Description
The book is a classic that features a lovable boy who, despite all the hardship in his life, never gives up and retains his kind heart. Although the plot starts quite sadly with Oliver's start in life and his upbringing in the orphanage, it develops into a real crime story with a penchant for melodrama and a final, quite rosy ending where almost everyone gets what they deserve. The ending is then a rather concentrated load of information for the resolution. The story captivates and one experiences highs and lows with Oliver and is happy for him that he finds a few people who take him into their hearts and lovingly care for him. A classic that presents interesting characters from various social classes, melodrama, entertainment, emotion, brutality, social criticism, and some coincidences. The book at B1 language level offers a parallel Italian-English translation that allows the reader to learn the Italian language in a shorter time. At a glance, it is immediately apparent what unknown words mean. The audio files are included and available online. With the help of QR codes, access an audio file in no time without having to manually type in web addresses.
