Book Description
Essay from the year 2022 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: A, , course: Islamic banking, language: English, abstract: Green sukuk is a form of Islamic green finance that helps in mobilisation of funds for green projects. Like conventional sukuk, green sukuk is an asset-based security based on sharia laws and is used mostly in Muslim majority countries to mobilise finances for infrastructure and large-scale developments (Sekuriti, 2019). It is a low-risk, guaranteed return for the investor. These programs provide solutions in areas where financial inclusion is low, as they minimise risk. For instance, they help governments and local authorities to implement sustainable projects or projects aimed at combating climate change such as renewable energy and waste management projects. The use of Sukuk also reduces debt levels by promoting economic security and equality. According to Ng (2015), Sukuk can be restructured to help in the attainment of sustainable development goals by integrating contemporary innovations in financial technology. Consistent with this argument, the OECD (2020) proposed the introduction of the incentive-compatible Sukuk masharakah model in the development of green bonds.

Islamic Green Finance

Islamic Green Finance PDF Author: Mohd Ma'Sum Billah
Publisher: Taylor & Francis
ISBN: 1040121063
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 265

Book Description
This book argues that focusing on the green economy and green finance is essential to counteract the catastrophic, socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, while numerous research initiatives in the context of the green economy and/or finance have been observed in different parts of the world, to date, no comprehensive work has been published on the topic of green finance in relation to the discipline of Shari’ah. This timely book provides a comprehensive guide and offers practical solutions to the core issues of green finance within the principles of Maqasid al-Shari’ah. It contends that Islamic green finance serves to promote global financial stability and mitigate the financial risks associated with climate change and environmental degradation: by integrating Islamic finance principles with sustainable and environmentally friendly practices; by encouraging ethical investments and prioritising long-term social and environmental benefits; and by redirecting capital towards sustainable projects and fostering a more sustainable and inclusive financial system. Islamic green finance’s emphasis on transparency, governance, risk-sharing, and responsible investing helps lessen systemic risks and supports the transition towards a more stable and sustainable global financial landscape. The book’s holistic approach to green finance in Maqasid al-Shari’ah aims to ensure that financial actions align with Islamic principles and help create a more sustainable and responsible economic system. The book is a detailed reference, which sheds light on the pressing issues of our time. It encompasses various aspects of Islamic economics and serves as a guide to implementing green financing in accordance with Islamic principles and ethics, and as such, it will appeal to academics, researchers, students and policymakers alike.

Green Sukuk

Green Sukuk PDF Author: Umar F. Moghul
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 60

Book Description
This article explores the parallels between Islamic ethics and environmental consciousness and demonstrates the market potential of coupling environmental sustainability with Islamic capital markets. A 'green' sukuk, the subject case study, has the potential to build a pioneering bridge between socially-responsible and Islamic investment communities. Given the breadth of projects a sukuk can finance, the scope of Islamic and conventional socially-responsible investors, and large-scale renewable energy and energy diversification initiatives, a 'green' sukuk would engender business growth while addressing environmental and energy concerns and pave the way for future Islamic and socially responsible agendas like community rejuvenation and sustainable farming. Islamic finance may thereby effectuate tangible impact and respond to stakeholder criticisms. We recommend: (i) legislation of standards to support Islam's environmental ethics alongside compliance assessment bodies, (ii) the inclusion of environmental ethics in contemporary Islamic legal-financial analytics, and (iii) audits describing environmental impact and efforts.

Catalyzing Green Finance

Catalyzing Green Finance PDF Author: Asian Development Bank
Publisher: Asian Development Bank
ISBN: 9292578561
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 276

Book Description
A large financing need challenges climate-adjusted infrastructure in developing Asia, estimated at $26 trillion till 2030. This necessitates crowding-in private sources to meet financing, efficiency, and technology gaps. However, a lack of bankable projects is a major hurdle. This publication suggests one possible innovative financing approach. The Green Finance Catalyzing Facility (GFCF) proposes a blended finance framework for governments and development entities to better leverage development funds for risk mitigation, generate a pipeline of bankable green infrastructure projects, and directly catalyze private finance. The book is divided into three parts: The first part sheds new light on the energy shift towards renewable energy. The second shows the increasing interest of investors in sustainability, and the authors argue that investors not only look at expected returns and risks, but also at social returns. Finally, the third part explains the need for social returns in Islamic finance, which cannot be explained by traditional finance theory.
