Book Description
While the report points out that Iowa's public roads system is not entirely broken, it is reaching a tipping point where the cost to recover from the situation will grow exponentially if legislative action is not taken soon. As a result of the study, Iowa DOT, city and county officials concluded that: Iowa is facing a projected $27.7 billion transportation funding shortfall over the next 20 years. The $27.7 billion shortfall represents an ideal level of investment that realistically cannot be fully funded in light of the needs that exist for all levels of government and the services they provide; however, there are critical needs that could be met if additional funding is secured. The minimum amount of new funding needed to meet the most critical needs to sustain and enhance Iowa's economy is $200 million per year.

Pages : 112
Book Description
The purpose of this manual is to provide clear and helpful information for maintaining gravel roads. Very little technical help is available to small agencies that are responsible for managing these roads. Gravel road maintenance has traditionally been "more of an art than a science" and very few formal standards exist. This manual contains guidelines to help answer the questions that arise concerning gravel road maintenance such as: What is enough surface crown? What is too much? What causes corrugation? The information is as nontechnical as possible without sacrificing clear guidelines and instructions on how to do the job right.
