Urban Mass Transportation Abstracts
Transportation Planning for Small and Medium-sized Communities
Author: Frances R. Zwanzig
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 112
Book Description
The proceedings are reported of a conference that was convened to provide for the exchange of experiences among practitioners of transportation planning for cities of fewer than 200,000 people, to provide guidance for transportation policies and programs, to foster the development of future activities in this area, and to provide a document that will reflect the proceedings of the conference and serve as a basic resource for practitioners, administrators, and policymakers. Forty four papers were presented in five areas. Papers concerning the products of the transportation planning process from the state perspective and the appropriate level of planning effort in smaller cities provided the impetus for the workshops. The latter began by considering issues and levels of effort pertinent to the functional workshop area. Resource papers aided workshop delibrations. The second half of the conference was allocated to workshop activities on techniques. Plenary sessions followed each workshop session.

Guide to Urban Traffic Volume Counting
Author: R. A. Ferlis
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Sampling (Statistics)
Languages : en
Pages : 60
Book Description
This report presents methods by which urbanized areas can develop and implement integrated traffic data counting programs to serve the volume data needs of all their agencies. The procedures presented complement the techniques for measuring vehicle type and occupancy presented in the Guide for Estimating Urban Vehicle Classification and Occupancy. Methods for estimating volume at a single location, volume across a particular cordonline or cutline, vehicle-miles travelled within a corridor, and regional vehicle-miles travelled are presented. Of particular value to transportation technical staffs in urban areas, these techniques permit collection of volume data at pre-determined levels of precision, and in a cost-effective manner.
