Young Driver Research Program

Young Driver Research Program PDF Author: Wendy A. Macdonald

Category : Teenage automobile drivers
Languages : en
Pages : 138

Book Description
This report presents an overview of results in other reports in this series which separately analysed Australian and USA mass crash databases. The focus was on identifying differences between the crash patterns of young and mature car drivers which occur consistently across databases, as well as consistent differences between daytime and night time crash patterns. Results showed that day/night differences were often large, and usually of similar magnitude for both young and mature drivers. Higher young driver compared to mature driver involvement was shown for single vehicle crashes, crashes occurring on curves or slopes, travelling above the speed limit or at excessive speed, and crashes where 'loss of control ' was identified as a casual factor. An In-depth Study of Rural Road Crashes in South Australia

An In-depth Study of Rural Road Crashes in South Australia PDF Author: G. A. Ryan
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Roads
Languages : en
Pages : 324

Book Description
An intensive on scene study of crashes on rural roads outside of towns was carried out from June 1986 to July 1987 in an area of roughly 100 kilometres radius around Adelaide, SA. A total of 80 crashes were investigated. This was a 14% sample of the 577 calls to crashes. Fifty-six crashes involved loss of directional control. The loss of directional control was due to various combinations of driver, vehicle and environmental factors. The drivers and riders involved in the crashes were predominantly young, (less than 30 years), male, unmarried, in a blue collar occupation, with a limited secondary school education. Almost half of male drivers were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. About 15% of drivers and riders had a BAC over the limit of 0.08 g/100 ml. Compared with urban crashes these crashes resulted in more frequent and more severe injury. Recommendations were made regarding measures to increase seat belt wearing rates, and to increase random breath testing in rural areas.Rural areas. BAC. Road design. Human factor. Young Driver Research Program

Young Driver Research Program PDF Author: Wendy A. Macdonald
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Drinking and traffic accidents
Languages : en
Pages : 74

Book Description
A theoretical model of the determinants of young driver crash risk is outlined and some methodogical issues concerning types of available data, measures of crash risk and measures of exposure to risk are discussed. Within this framework, published literature on young driver crashes in Australia and other countries is reviewed. The general nature and magnitude of the problem is described in terms of data on fatal and serious injury crashes derived from mass databases; information from more detailed studies of sub-sets of crashes is used to provide a more comprehensive description of the patterns of occurrence & charateristic of young driver crashes. Information is discussed in relation to driver age, experience and gender, time of crash occurrence, passenger characteristics, crash type, pre-crash vehicle manoeuvres, driver errors, and alcohol and seatbelt offenses. Road accidents. Driver experience. Gender. Motivation Driver behaviour. Driver skill. Exposure. Driver age. Recently qualified drivers. Novice drivers.

World Report on Road Traffic Injury Prevention PDF Author: Marjorie Peden
Publisher: DIANE Publishing
ISBN: 1437904068
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 67

Book Description
Every day thousands of people are killed and injured on our roads. Current efforts to address road safety are minimal in comparison to this growing human suffering. This report presents a comprehensive overview of what is known about the magnitude, risk factors and impact of road traffic injuries, and about ways to prevent and lessen the impact of road crashes. Over 100 experts, from all continents and different sectors -- including transport, engineering, health, police, education and civil society -- have worked to produce the report. Charts and tables.
