Investigation of Spall Repair Materials for Concrete Pavement

Investigation of Spall Repair Materials for Concrete Pavement PDF Author:

ISBN:
Category : Pavements, Concrete
Languages : en
Pages : 162

Book Description
This project investigated the properties and performance of the products used for spall repair of concrete pavement. A survey of Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintenance engineers produced a roster of 10 repair materials currently in use in the state. After identifying the key characteristics of a successful repair material, a laboratory testing program was developed to evaluate the properties of the repair materials. These materials were tested for strength, compatibility, and bond to quantify their characteristics relative to those products known to work well.

Failure and Repair of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement

Failure and Repair of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement PDF Author: National Research Council (U.S.). Transportation Research Board

Book Description
The performance of CRCP has revealed a number of failure modes that are traceable to design, construction, materials, and maintenance deficiencies and such other factors as environemntal conditions and traffic loadings. This report of the Transportation Research Board includes a review of the cumulative experiences of state that have constructed and maintained CRCP. Guidelines for repair techniques are included, and areas of needed research are identified.

Book Description
The Strategic Highway Research Program's project H-106, the partial-depth spall-repair experiment, is the most extensive effort to date to evaluate the performance of various rapid-setting materials and procedures used in the repair of partial-depth spalls in Portland cement concrete pavements. Four test installations consisting of a total of 1,607 patches, were constructed in 4 climatic zones, and the experiment investigated the performance of several cementitious, polymeric, and bituminous patching materials, and procedures used in repairing jointed concrete pavements. The techniques included the following: saw and patch, chip and patch, mill and patch, waterblast and patch, and minimal praparation clean and patch under adverse conditions. The patch performance has been good: only 2.3% of the patches have failed.

LTTP Pavement Maintenance Materials

Book Description
"The Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) H-106 maintenance experiment and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Long-Term Monitoring (LTM) of Pavement Maintenance Materials Test Sites project studied the repair of partialdepth spalls in concrete pavements. The purpose of partial-depth spall repair is to restore a pavement's structural integrity, improve its ride quality, and extend its serviceable life. Highway agencies spend a large amount of time and money annually performing partial-depth spall repairs, both as temporary and permanent fixes. Frequently, the repairs are not made as efficiently as desired or do not perform as long as intended. The primary consequences are added disruption to traffic, more exposure of patching crews to traffic, and additional maintenance expenditures. The purpose of this study, then, was to address the merits and deficiencies of current spall repair materials, designs, and practices. The study evaluated the relative performance of selected patching materials, as well as the effect of selected repair methods. The study also examined repair material properties and tests that correlate well with field performance. This report documents the entire portland cement concrete (PCC) partial-depth spall repair study, including the installation of 30 unique repair types (i.e., combinations of patching material and patching method) at 4 different test sites, the laboratory testing of experimental repair materials, and the 7-year performance monitoring of the various partial-depth repairs. It also discusses the results of comprehensive statistical analyses conducted on material performance and laboratory testing data. The results of a detailed cost-effectiveness analysis are also presented"--Technical report documentation page.

Repair of Concrete Pavements

Repair of Concrete Pavements PDF Author: National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board. Annual Meeting

Book Description
Paper 1 evaluates the use of welded wire fabric reinforcement to alleviate rutting and/or shoving of pavement at intersections, and compares the effectiveness of extra thickness of asphaltic concrete overlays over portland cement concrete vs the use of welded wire reinforcement in the asphaltic concrete overlay to control reflection cracking in the asphaltic concrete surface. Paper 2 concerns a method of controlling reflection cracks in bituminous concrete overlays over the transverse joints of rigid pavements. Paper 3 concerns the experiences in district no. 4 of the New York State Department of Public Works with the salvage and restoration of old concrete pavements. Paper 4: Maintenance programs during the first 8 years of commercial airline operation at Willow Run Airfield are described.

Repair of Structures and Pavement by Thin Concrete Patching

Repair of Structures and Pavement by Thin Concrete Patching PDF Author: National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 40

Book Description
Paper 1: A synthetic latex emulsion admixture was used with Portland cement mortar in thin patching mixtures. Laboratory study showed improvement in shear bond strength, compressive strength, tensile strength, and a reduction of water-cement ratio as compared to regular mortar. Paper 2: This paper discusses bonded concrete construction and its various applications to pavements and it illustrates the essential steps in surface preparation and construction. Resurfacing or patching of concrete pavements with bonded concrete has proven to be feasible.
