Book Description
"An experimental investigation has been performed to determine the free convection heat transfer from a heated flat plate in air moved from the vertical position through three inclined positions to the horizontal position. The hot surface of the plate was facing downward for the horizontal and three inclined positions. Tests were performed at plate surface temperatures from 120°F up to 404°F. Data for the plate surface temperature at about 165°F with the plate in the vertical position agrees very well with previous experimental work. This same data was used to determine a new parameter, introduced into the Pholhausen free convection boundary layer equation, to account for the angular position of the plate as it is moved from the vertical to the horizontal position. Use of this modified equation results in a convergence of all data to one normalized curve"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Investigation of Free Convection Heat Transfer from an Inclined Flat Plate

Book Description
"The experimental investigation was conducted to determine temperature distribution and convective heat transfer coefficients in terms of Nusselt number for an inclined heated flat plate in air. The heated surface of the aluminum flat plate was set facing upward and moved through seven positions from the vertical to the horizontal. The investigation shows that the local Nusselt number can be predicted by Kiekus's solution within 12 per cent for inclination angles from the vertical through 75° from the vertical. In the case of the vertical position, Eckert's solution gives a better prediction. For the horizontal position the results show good agreement with the equation which is recommended by McAdams, with 8 per cent"--Abstract, leaf ii.

Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Narrow Plates

Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Narrow Plates PDF Author: Patrick H. Oosthuizen
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461451582
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 123

Book Description
Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Narrow Plates deals with a heat transfer situation that is of significant practical importance but which is not adequately dealt with in any existing textbooks or in any widely available review papers. The aim of the book is to introduce the reader to recent studies of natural convection from narrow plates including the effects of plate edge conditions, plate inclination, thermal conditions at the plate surface and interaction of the flows over adjacent plates. Both numerical and experimental studies are discussed and correlation equations based on the results of these studies are reviewed.

Heat Convection

Heat Convection PDF Author: Latif M. Jiji
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 364202971X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 553

Book Description
Jiji's extensive understanding of how students think and learn, what they find difficult, and which elements need to be stressed is integrated in this work. He employs an organization and methodology derived from his experience and presents the material in an easy to follow form, using graphical illustrations and examples for maximum effect. The second, enlarged edition provides the reader with a thorough introduction to external turbulent flows, written by Glen Thorncraft. Additional highlights of note: Illustrative examples are used to demonstrate the application of principles and the construction of solutions, solutions follow an orderly approach used in all examples, systematic problem-solving methodology emphasizes logical thinking, assumptions, approximations, application of principles and verification of results. Chapter summaries help students review the material. Guidelines for solving each problem can be selectively given to students.

Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Horizontal and Near Horizontal Surfaces

Natural Convective Heat Transfer from Horizontal and Near Horizontal Surfaces PDF Author: Patrick H. Oosthuizen
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319787500
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 131

Book Description
This book deals with a natural convective heat transfer situation of significant practical importance that has not been adequately dealt with in existing texts or widely available review papers: natural convective heat transfer from horizontal and near horizontal surfaces. The aim is to provide the reader with an understanding of past studies of natural convective heat transfer from horizontal surfaces and a more detailed review of contemporary studies. The more recent work deals with heat transfer from surfaces that have more complex shapes than previously considered, with heat transfer in situations in which laminar, transitional, and turbulent flow occur; in situations where the surface is inclined at a relatively small angle to the horizontal; and in situations where there is a covering surface above the heated surface. The authors further present methods for predicting heat transfer rates in all of the situations.
