Investigation of Cement-Replacement Materials. Report No. 4. Preliminary Field Investigations (Phase B).

Pages : 21
Book Description
The purpose of the investigation of cement-replacement materials, was to develop procedures for tests involving field-size equipment and aggregate. Seven 5- by 10- by 15-ft field blocks and several small test specimens were cast from concrete batched, mixed, and placed using 2-cu-yd equipment. Seven mixtures were used, representing two aggregate sizes, 3 in. and 6 in.; two water-cement ratios, 0.5 and 0.8; and two cement-replacement materials, each in a single percentage of replacement. The field blocks were tested for temperature rise and ultrasonic pulse velocity and cores from the blocks were tested for compressive strength and permeability. Specimens were installed at the exposure station at Treat Island, Maine, to be tested for thermal properties. Results obtained from the various tests indicated that the procedures involved would be generally satisfactory for use in programs of larger scale. (Author).

Book Description
The aim of this book is to present the latest findings in the properties and application of Supplementary Cementing Materials and blended cements currently used in the world in concrete. Sustainability is an important issue all over the world. Carbon dioxide emission has been a serious problem in the world due to the greenhouse effect. Today many countries agreed to reduce the emission of CO2. Many phases of cement and concrete technology can affect sustainability. Cement and concrete industry is responsible for the production of 7% carbon dioxide of the total world CO2 emission. The use of supplementary cementing materials (SCM), design of concrete mixtures with optimum content of cement and enhancement of concrete durability are the main issues towards sustainability in concrete industry.
