M63 Aquifer Storage and Recovery

M63 Aquifer Storage and Recovery PDF Author: Frederick Bloetscher
Publisher: American Water Works Association
ISBN: 162576104X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 147

Book Description
M63, Aquifer Storage and Recovery provides a general understanding of the principles of aquifer storage and recovery (ASR). The manual discusses the concept, regulations as they are applied nationally and by state, basic design and development criteria, and presents results of an inventory of ASR well sites nationally. Both successful projects and ones that faced challenges are profiled. M63 provides management, operations, and engineering staff with an understanding of ASR to help them make decisions on investigations and installations when problems or the need to expand supplies arise, as well as enough background to improve response to problems and challenges. Chapters include: • Groundwater Recharge and Storage Programs • Regulatory Requirements • Summary of ASR Programs in the United States • Challenges for ASR Programs in the United States • Planning and Construction of ASR Systems • Operation and Performance Monitoring of ASR Wells • Example ASR Programs in US • ASR Versus Other Groundwater Recharge and Storage Programs

Regional Issues in Aquifer Storage and Recovery for Everglades Restoration

Regional Issues in Aquifer Storage and Recovery for Everglades Restoration PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309086213
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 75

Book Description
The report reviews a comprehensive research plan on Everglades restoration drafted by federal and Florida officials that assesses a central feature of the restoration: a proposal to drill more than 300 wells funneling up to 1.7 billion gallons of water a day into underground aquifers, where it would be stored and then pumped back to the surface to replenish the Everglades during dry periods. The report says that the research plan goes a long way to providing information needed to settle remaining technical questions and clearly responds to suggestions offered by scientists in Florida and in a previous report by the Research Council.

Management of Aquifer Recharge for Sustainability

Management of Aquifer Recharge for Sustainability PDF Author: P.J. Dillon
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000151271
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1113

Book Description
This title offers more than 100 papers originating in 20 countries, covering research on a widening range of methods for recharge enhancement and groundwater quality protection and improvement. These include: bank filtration; aquifer storage and recovery; and soil aquifer treatment, as well as rainwater harvesting and pond infiltration. The emphasis is on understanding subsurface process to improve siting, design and operation and to facilitate use of stormwater and reclaimed water, particularly in water-scarce areas.

Prospects for Managed Underground Storage of Recoverable Water

Prospects for Managed Underground Storage of Recoverable Water PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309114381
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 351

Book Description
Growing demands for water in many parts of the nation are fueling the search for new approaches to sustainable water management, including how best to store water. Society has historically relied on dams and reservoirs, but problems such as high evaporation rates and a lack of suitable land for dam construction are driving interest in the prospect of storing water underground. Managed underground storage should be considered a valuable tool in a water manager's portfolio, although it poses its own unique challenges that need to be addressed through research and regulatory measures.

Review of the Everglades Aquifer Storage and Recovery Regional Study

Review of the Everglades Aquifer Storage and Recovery Regional Study PDF Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309372127
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 113

Book Description
The Florida Everglades is a large and diverse aquatic ecosystem that has been greatly altered over the past century by an extensive water control infrastructure designed to increase agricultural and urban economic productivity. The Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP), launched in 2000, is a joint effort led by the state and federal government to reverse the decline of the ecosystem. Increasing water storage is a critical component of the restoration, and the CERP included projects that would drill over 330 aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells to store up to 1.65 billion gallons per day in porous and permeable units in the aquifer system during wet periods for recovery during seasonal or longer-term dry periods. To address uncertainties regarding regional effects of large-scale ASR implementation in the Everglades, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the South Florida Water Management District conducted an 11-year ASR Regional Study, with focus on the hydrogeology of the Floridan aquifer system, water quality changes during aquifer storage, possible ecological risks posed by recovered water, and the regional capacity for ASR implementation. At the request of the USACE, Review of the Everglades Aquifer Storage and Recovery Regional Study reviews the ASR Regional Study Technical Data Report and assesses progress in reducing uncertainties related to full-scale CERP ASR implementation. This report considers the validity of the data collection and interpretation methods; integration of studies; evaluation of scaling from pilot-to regional-scale application of ASR; and the adequacy and reliability of the study as a basis for future applications of ASR.

Hydrogeology and Groundwater Modeling, Second Edition

Hydrogeology and Groundwater Modeling, Second Edition PDF Author: Neven Kresic
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849333484
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 836

Book Description
Coupling the basics of hygrogeology with analytical and numerical modeling methods, Hydrogeology and Groundwater Modeling, Second Edition provides detailed coverage of both theory and practice. Written by a leading hydrogeologist who has consulted for industry and environmental agencies and taught at major universities around the world, this unique book fills a gap in the groundwater hydrogeology literature. With more than 40 real-world examples, the book is a source for clear, easy-to-understand, and step-by-step quantitative groundwater evaluation and contaminant fate and transport analysis, from basic laboratory determination to complex analytical calculations and computer modeling. It provides more than 400 drawings, graphs, and photographs, and a variety of useful tables of all key groundwater parameters, as well as lucid, straightforward answers to common hydrogeological problems. Reflecting nearly ten years of new scholarship since the publication of the bestselling first edition, this second edition is wider in focus with added and updated examples, figures, and problems, yet still provides information in the author's trademark, user-friendly style. No other book offers such carefully selected examples and clear, elegantly explained solutions. The inclusion of step-by-step solutions to real problems builds a knowledge base for understanding and solving groundwater issues.
