Design & Intuition

Design & Intuition PDF Author: Cecilia Lewis Kausel
Publisher: WIT Press
ISBN: 184564574X
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 288

Book Description
Scholarship has sought to explain design primarily as developments and trends by understanding the influential ideas of a period. These processes are resourceful to the analysis, however they don't explain why people become attached to design and cultivate it in time. For this purpose we must also gain understanding of collective cognitive processes and the meaning of design to people. The study traces the development of respective design observed first in ancient structures, and then in interiors and artefacts that are associated to architecture by design. Design form migrates usually from technology to material culture (i.e. from buildings to interiors and crafts), though this direction is not fixed in creativity. Sometimes this pattern is not followed, and arches, pilasters, tower crenellations and pediments appear in historic costume. Technology holds implications for visual culture, thus this study also looks at the inspiration in mechanical instruments observed in XXI century design. As the book unfolds a cultural phenomenon emerges. Architectural evocations in other crafts reflect that the public has its own dialogue with design. The attachments and responses of the public to design are many times a phenomenon worthy of being analyzed. The book gives out interesting findings about the mind and how it transforms design. It also exemplifies a new methodology for the observation of collective responses to design.

Undeniable

Undeniable PDF Author: Douglas Axe
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0062349600
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 219

Book Description
Named A Best Book of the Year by World Magazine Throughout his distinguished and unconventional career, engineer-turned-molecular-biologist Douglas Axe has been asking the questions that much of the scientific community would rather silence. Now, he presents his conclusions in this brave and pioneering book. Axe argues that the key to understanding our origin is the “design intuition”—the innate belief held by all humans that tasks we would need knowledge to accomplish can only be accomplished by someone who has that knowledge. For the ingenious task of inventing life, this knower can only be God. Starting with the hallowed halls of academic science, Axe dismantles the widespread belief that Darwin’s theory of evolution is indisputably true, showing instead that a gaping hole has been at its center from the beginning. He then explains in plain English the science that proves our design intuition scientifically valid. Lastly, he uses everyday experience to empower ordinary people to defend their design intuition, giving them the confidence and courage to explain why it has to be true and the vision to imagine what biology will become when people stand up for this truth. Armed with that confidence, readers will affirm what once seemed obvious to all of us—that living creatures, from single-celled cyanobacteria to orca whales and human beings, are brilliantly conceived, utterly beyond the reach of accident. Our intuition was right all along.

Intuitive Analog Circuit Design

Intuitive Analog Circuit Design PDF Author: Marc Thompson
Publisher: Newnes
ISBN: 0124059082
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 723

Book Description
Intuitive Analog Circuit Design outlines ways of thinking about analog circuits and systems that let you develop a feel for what a good, working analog circuit design should be. This book reflects author Marc Thompson's 30 years of experience designing analog and power electronics circuits and teaching graduate-level analog circuit design, and is the ideal reference for anyone who needs a straightforward introduction to the subject. In this book, Dr. Thompson describes intuitive and "back-of-the-envelope" techniques for designing and analyzing analog circuits, including transistor amplifiers (CMOS, JFET, and bipolar), transistor switching, noise in analog circuits, thermal circuit design, magnetic circuit design, and control systems. The application of some simple rules of thumb and design techniques is the first step in developing an intuitive understanding of the behavior of complex electrical systems. Introducing analog circuit design with a minimum of mathematics, this book uses numerous real-world examples to help you make the transition to analog design. The second edition is an ideal introductory text for anyone new to the area of analog circuit design. - LTSPICE files and PowerPoint files available online to assist readers and instructors in simulating circuits found in the text - Design examples are used throughout the text, along with end-of-chapter examples - Covers real-world parasitic elements in circuit design and their effects

Intuition

ISBN: 1199341592
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 227

Book Description
In 1970 and 1971, Fuller was concurrently composing a poem suggested by his new Morgan sloop “Intuition” and rewriting, with my collaboration, the projected first chapter of Synergetics called “Brain and Mind.” Fuller agreed with my suggestion that this first chapter had an integrity of its own separate from the rest of the Synergetics manuscript, and he felt that both of these works had an urgency that argued for their publication at the earliest possible date. WIth the help of Bill Whitehead, our editor at Doubleday, they were combined in Intuition, the first of his two books of blank verse. Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
A dynamic new way to understand intuition, already implemented around the world at top companies and business schools Neuroscience shows that instinct has a leading role in complex decision-making, yet imaginative play is the most direct means of activating our creativity and problem-solving abilities. Based on over 20 years of Cholle's wide-ranging professional experience and insights, The Intuitive Compass offers a fascinating new approach to innovative problem-solving, decision-making, and sustainable value creation. Through a concept known as Intuitive Intelligence, Cholle shows how anyone can improve creative brainpower by harnessing the balance between reason and instinct.
