All’inizio, lo studio del diritto sembra un labirinto inestricabile: e rischia di restarlo, senza appositi fili d’Arianna. Questa Introduzione allo studio del diritto fornisce cinque idee semplici – una per capitolo – che aiutano a orientarsi nel labirinto. Anzitutto, il diritto si distingue dalla morale perché serve a guidare la condotta, non a valutarla. Poi, la parola ‘diritto’ indica norme prodotte e applicate da istituzioni in base a costituzioni, trattati e carte dei diritti. Vi sono, quindi, due tipi di norme giuridiche: le regole, che guidano la condotta, e i principi, che dicono come devono essere fatte le regole. Ancora, l’insieme delle norme giuridiche viene raffigurato dalla dottrina come ordinato: come un sistema.
