Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads

Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads PDF Author: Jan Robert Wright
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 047085846X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 559

Book Description
Aeroelastic phenomena arising from the interaction of aerodynamic, elastic and inertia forces, and the loads resulting from flight / ground manoeuvres and gust / turbulence encounters, have a significant influence upon aircraft design. The prediction of aircraft aeroelastic stability, response and loads requires application of a range of interrelated engineering disciplines. This new textbook introduces the foundations of aeroelasticity and loads for the flexible aircraft, providing an understanding of the main concepts involved and relating them to aircraft behaviour and industrial practice. This book includes the use of simplified mathematical models to demonstrate key aeroelastic and loads phenomena including flutter, divergence, control effectiveness and the response and loads resulting from flight / ground manoeuvres and gust / turbulence encounters. It provides an introduction to some up-to-date methodologies for aeroelastics and loads modelling. It lays emphasis on the strong link between aeroelasticity and loads. It also includes provision of MATLAB and SIMULINK programs for the simplified analyses. It offers an overview of typical industrial practice in meeting certification requirements.

Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads

Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads PDF Author: Jan R. Wright
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118488016
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 580

Book Description
Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads, Second Edition is an updated new edition offering comprehensive coverage of the main principles of aircraft aeroelasticity and loads. For ease of reference, the book is divided into three parts and begins by reviewing the underlying disciplines of vibrations, aerodynamics, loads and control, and then goes on to describe simplified models to illustrate aeroelastic behaviour and aircraft response and loads for the flexible aircraft before introducing some more advanced methodologies. Finally, it explains how industrial certification requirements for aeroelasticity and loads may be met and relates these to the earlier theoretical approaches used. Key features of this new edition include: Uses a unified simple aeroelastic model throughout the book Major revisions to chapters on aeroelasticity Updates and reorganisation of chapters involving Finite Elements Some reorganisation of loads material Updates on certification requirements Accompanied by a website containing a solutions manual, and MATLABĀ® and SIMULINKĀ® programs that relate to the models used Introduction to Aircraft Aeroelasticity and Loads, Second Edition is a must-have reference for researchers and practitioners working in the aeroelasticity and loads fields, and is also an excellent textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students in aerospace engineering.

Introduction to Structural Dynamics and Aeroelasticity

Introduction to Structural Dynamics and Aeroelasticity PDF Author: Dewey H. Hodges
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139499920
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
This text provides an introduction to structural dynamics and aeroelasticity, with an emphasis on conventional aircraft. The primary areas considered are structural dynamics, static aeroelasticity and dynamic aeroelasticity. The structural dynamics material emphasizes vibration, the modal representation and dynamic response. Aeroelastic phenomena discussed include divergence, aileron reversal, airload redistribution, unsteady aerodynamics, flutter and elastic tailoring. More than one hundred illustrations and tables help clarify the text and more than fifty problems enhance student learning. This text meets the need for an up-to-date treatment of structural dynamics and aeroelasticity for advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate aerospace engineering students.

An Approach to the Problem of Estimating Severe and Repeated Gust Loads for Missile Operations

An Approach to the Problem of Estimating Severe and Repeated Gust Loads for Missile Operations PDF Author: Harry Press
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Atmospheric turbulence
Languages : en
Pages : 608

Book Description
An analysis of available airplane measurements of vertical gust velocity is presented in order to arrive at a simple description of the frequency and intensity of gust velocities experienced by airplanes in operations. For the purpose of application to missile operations; the results obtained are modified to eliminate the effects of storm-avoidance procedures normally followed in airplane operations. The frequency distributions of gust velocity are then converted to a form appropriate for use in power spectral response calculations. Methods of applying the results to the estimation of the large and the small repeated loads in missile operations are then developed. Simple methods of estimating the gust loadings that will be exceeded with a given probability are presented in terms of missile response parameters and turbulence parameters. The limitations of the present results are also discussed briefly.
