We are proud to present the Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Religion and Education 2020 (INCRE 2020). The Center for Research and Development of Ministry of Religious Affairs of Republic of Indonesia together together with other International organizations: International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (UNNISA) of Brunei, State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, and Asosasi Ma’had Ali Indonesia (AMALI) hosted and organized the second annual conference in the general field of education and religion. The conference provided a forum for education professionals engaged in research and development to share ideas, interact with others, present their latest works, and strengthen the collaboration among academics, researchers and professionals. It was a single-track, highly selective conference attended by leading experts from academia, industry, and government. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, we organized the conference virtually in 2 days event 11-12 November 2020 with 4 keynote speakers: Prof Prof Azyumardi Azra from State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof Abdul Wahab Abdul Rahman from International Islamic University Malaysia, Prof. Achmad Gunaryo from Research and Development, Ministry of Religious Affair, Indonesia, and Dr. Syamsi Ali from Jamaica Muslim Center, New York USA. The proceeding consisted of 34 accepted papers from the total of 82 submission papers. The proceeding consisted of 10 main areas of education and religion. They are: Modernizing madrasas in global contexts, Teacher and Education development, Student abilities in religion education, Education and Technology, World Class University in Indonesian religious university, Local wisdom and religion education, Citizenship in religion education, Religion and character education, Moderism in religion and education, and Islamic boarding school stretching. All papers have been scrutinized by a panel of reviewers who provide critical comments and corrections, and thereafter contributed to the improvement of the quality of the papers. We strongly believe that INCRE 2020 conference has become a good forum for all researcher, developers, practitioners, scholars, policy makers, especially post graduate students to discuss their understandings of current processes and findings, as well as to look at possibilities for setting-up new trends in Education and Religion. We also expect that the future INCRE conference will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume.

This book critically examines the intersection of religion, public health and human security in Nigeria. Focusing on Christianity, Islam, traditional religions and "intra-religious" doctrinal divergencies, the book explores the impact faith has on health-related decisions and how this affects security in Nigeria. This marks the first issue of the Journal of Astronist Studies and begins what is hoped to be a long tradition of scholarly discourse on space religions and the broader intersection between astronomy, religion and spirituality. This issue begins with a peer-reviewed article by myself that gives a short history and comparison between Astronism, Cosmism and Cosmodeism. This first article of the first issue sets the scene for a scholarly discourse of Astronist studies by providing some insight into the legacy of Astronism’s predecessors in Cosmism and Cosmodeism. This issue continues with an article by Juan Vivanco who is new to the field of scholarly writing but who boasts a long history of entrepreneurship in eco-friendly construction and is based in Dubai. In his piece, Vivanco introduces readers to quantum cosmic theology and reflects on his experiences of cosmic meditation which has close links with the Astronist practice of night sky exposition and meditation. The third article in this issue is another peer-reviewed piece from myself, this time focusing on the concept of astromorphism. This piece draws much inspiration from my master’s dissertation but uniquely focuses on how the theory of an Astronic religious tradition contributes to the debate on the origins of religion. The origins of religion emerged as an academic pursuit in the early nineteenth century but the role of prehistoric astrolatry was never given any prominence in the debate. The second half of the issue begins with a piece by Professor Emeritus of cultural astronomy and astrology Michael York. York gives his perspective on how geocentrism––represented by modern paganism––and cosmocentrism––represented by Astronism––compare and contrast. York uses the sociological measuring tool of the ideal-type to discuss the worldviews of geocentrism and cosmocentrism by analysing the aims of modern paganism and Astronism on whether humanity ought to escape Earth or attempt instead to restore our terrestrial conditions. The final full-length article in this issue comes from Dr Monica Gyimah who discusses issues involving a lack of state recognition and legal personality specifically impacting people who profess indigenous beliefs. Gyimah provides an extensive analysis of the international legal framework geared towards protecting indigenous communities and gives several examples of how indigenous groups professing various forms of nature religion and polytheism remain unrecognised and their access denied to several fundamental rights protected under freedom of religion or belief. This issue ends with my review of Tsvi Bisk’s latest work Cosmodeism: A Worldview for the Space-Age. It was a pleasure to read and review Bisk’s work as many of the topics Bisk discusses in his work are prominent in Astronist philosophy. I reviewed Bisk’s work from my perspective both as an Astronist but also as the founder of Astronism, in particular to emphasise my belief in the need for the greater practical organisation of those movements that affirm the doctrine of transcension in some form.

This book is a collection of essays that explore the intersection of Earth, Gender and Religion in African literary texts. It examines cultural, religious, theological and philosophical traditions, and their construction of perspectives and attitudes about Earth-keeping and gender. This publication is critical given the current global environmental crisis and its impact on African and global communities. The book is multidisciplinary in approach (literary, environmental, theological and sociological), exploring the intersection of African creative work, religion and the environment in their construction of Earth and gender. It presents how the gendered interconnectedness of the natural environment, with its broad spirituality and deep identification with the woman, features prominently in the myths, folklores, legends, rituals, sacred songs and incantations that are explored in this collection. Both male and female writers in the collection laud and accept woman’s enduring motif as worker, symbol and guardian of the environment. This interconnectedness mirrors the importance of the environment for the survival of both human and non-human components of Mother Earth. The ideology of women’s agency is emphasised and reinforced by ecofeminist theologians; namely those viewing African women as active agents working closely with the environment and not as subordinates. In the context of the environmental crisis the nurturing role of women should be bolstered and the rich African traditions that conserved the environment preserved. The book advocates the re-engagement of women, particularly their knowledge and conservation techniques and how these can become reservoirs of dying traditions. This volume offers recorded traditions in African literary texts, thereby connecting gender, religion and the environment and helpful perspectives in Earth-keeping.
