Interfacial Fluid Dynamics and Transport Processes

Interfacial Fluid Dynamics and Transport Processes PDF Author: Ranga Narayanan
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540450955
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 379

Book Description
The present set of lectures and tutorial reviews deals with various topical aspects related to instabilities of interfacial processes and driven flows from both the theoretical and experimental point of views. New research has been spurred by demands for many applications in material sciences (melting, solidification, electro deposition), biomedical engineering and processing in microgravity environments. This book is intended as both a modern source of reference for researchers in the field as well as an introduction to postgraduate students and non-specialists from related areas.

Interfacial Dynamics in Fluid Flows

Interfacial Dynamics in Fluid Flows PDF Author: Andong He
Publisher: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing
ISBN: 9783845406275
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
As one of the core areas in the studies of fluid flows, interfacial dynamics has been attracting more and more attentions over the past few years. The interest of studying the behaviors of fluids near where they meet is interdisciplinary: many such problems arise from physics, chemical engineering, material science and applied mathematics. This book focuses on two mathematical approaches to the interfacial problems: conformal mapping methods and variational methods - the former provides a strong connection between holomorphic functions and incompressible and irrotational flows, and the latter can be used to derive conditions which a deformable object in contact with fluids must satisfy. Three different problems in fluid dynamics are analyzed, each of which is motivated by experimental observations. Graduate students and senior undergraduate students in mathematics, physics or engineering who intend to undertake researches in fluid dynamics should find this book useful.

Oil Film Dynamics in Aero Engine Bearing Chambers

Oil Film Dynamics in Aero Engine Bearing Chambers PDF Author: Amir Aleem Hashmi
Publisher: Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH
ISBN: 3832532285
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 162

Book Description
Aero engine bearing chambers are complex machine elements inside the engines, supporting up to three concentric shafts on bearings. For safety reasons, the aero engines always employ rolling-element type bearings and therefore require a sufficient oil supply for lubrication in order to guarantee a reliable operation. As a consequence, a complex two-phase flow consisting of oil and sealing air governs the bearing chambers. A highly dynamic oil film, flowing along the chamber walls, plays a vital role to fulfill the tasks of cooling, lubricating and cleaning the bearing chambers. The design and optimization process of the bearing chambers requires a detailed understanding in order to accurately simulate the film behaviour inside the bearing chambers. Based on the earlier experimental investigations, it is known that near the scavenge off-take a relatively thick film exists. The numerical model to simulate these films must therefore take into account the elliptical behaviour of such films. Among the different models, the Volume Of Fluid (VOF) Model offers the best compromise between accuracy and efforts. However, preliminary attempts to model a fully developed and turbulent test case from literature revealed an unphysical pressure drop and velocity profile in the gas phase above the film flow. An inadequate turbulence modelling near the gas-liquid interface was identified as the problem source. The 2-Equation turbulence models (k- epsilon & k- omega) were extended to achieve a substantial improvement.

Multiphase Flow Dynamics 2

Multiphase Flow Dynamics 2 PDF Author: Nikolay Ivanov Kolev
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642205984
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 371

Book Description
Multi-phase flows are part of our natural environment such as tornadoes, typhoons, air and water pollution and volcanic activities as well as part of industrial technology such as power plants, combustion engines, propulsion systems, or chemical and biological industry. The industrial use of multi-phase systems requires analytical and numerical strategies for predicting their behavior. .In its fourth extended edition the successful monograph package “Multiphase Flow Daynmics” contains theory, methods and practical experience for describing complex transient multi-phase processes in arbitrary geometrical configurations, providing a systematic presentation of the theory and practice of numerical multi-phase fluid dynamics. In the present second volume the methods for describing the mechanical interactions in multiphase dynamics are provided. This fourth edition includes various updates, extensions, improvements and corrections. "The literature in the field of multiphase flows is numerous. Therefore, it is very important to have a comprehensive and systematic overview including useful numerical methods. The volumes have the character of a handbook and accomplish this function excellently. The models are described in detail and a great number of comprehensive examples and some cases useful for testing numerical solutions are included. These two volumes are very useful for scientists and practicing engineers in the fields of technical thermodynamics, chemical engineering, fluid mechanics, and for mathematicians with interest in technical problems. Besides, they can give a good overview of the dynamically developing, complex field of knowledge to students. This monograph is highly recommended,” BERND PLATZER, ZAAM In the present second volume the methods for describing the mechanical interactions in multiphase dynamics are provided.
