Le cancer est une pathologie connue depuis des siècles, mais reste une maladie contemporaine difficile à traiter encore de nos jours. Cette pathologie est d'autant plus actuelle qu'elle représente un problème de santé publique puisque l'incidence de cancers est en constante augmentation tandis que la mortalité par cancers diminue progressivement sur ces trente dernières années, c'est le constat effectué par l'INCa dans son dernier rapport (2016). Avec l'évolution des thérapeutiques en oncologie, il est possible aujourd'hui de guérir de certains cancers (sein, prostate) à condition qu'il soit pris à temps, d'autres présentent malheureusement un mauvais pronostic (poumons, pancréas). La durée de vie des patients cancéreux augmente mais les traitements restent souvent mal tolérés et intoxiquent les sujets (chimiothérapie, radiothérapie, hormonothérapie) entrainant des effets indésirables nombreux ; la "qualité de vie" est ainsi au coeur des polémiques patients/professionnels de santé. C'est donc dans cette optique : "Comment améliorer la qualité de vie de nos patients?" que se tournent les professionnels de santé. Rajouter de l'allopathie sur de l'allopathie? C'est une solution employée aujourd'hui qui permet de neutraliser "en partie" certains effets secondaires. Les MACs ou Médecines Alternatives et Complémentaires représentent une autre alternative dont les effets thérapeutiques sont multiples et n'entrainent pas d'effets secondaires, à condition qu'elles soient employées à bon escient et à l'aide d'un professionnel de santé qualifié (pharmacien, médecin).
