Book Description
Field tests such as the Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM) Test and the Laser/Rimfire Test have produced results that suggest BRM training is a viable candidate for individualization. It is unclear, however, what instructional strategies and organizational mechanisms are appropriate for accomplishing this individualization. Accordingly, a requirement exists for identifying the appropriate strategies for individualizing marksmanship training. This report presents the results of a review of the educational and training literature with respect to the individualization of training and discusses candidate mechanisms for implementing such training. Key words include: Aptitude-Treatment Interaction; Learning Approaches; M16A1 Rifle; Psychomotor Learning; and Training Strategies.

Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System

Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training with the Laser Marksmanship Training System PDF Author: Joseph D. Hagman

Book Description
"This research compared the relative impact of two approaches for training Basic Rifle Marksmanship (BRM). One hundred and eighty four One-Station Unit Training (OSUT) infantry trainees (i.e., the experimental group) trained under a U.S. Army Reserve (USAR)-developed, device-based (i.e., the Beamhit Laser Marksmanship Training System LMTS) approach, and 202 infantry trainees (i.e., the control group) trained under the standard U.S. Army Infantry School BRM program of instruction. Results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the control group on shot grouping, weapon zeroing, and known-distance firing. No between-group differences were found, however, for record fire qualification scores or for performance during pop-up target engagement practice periods leading up to qualification. The implications of these findings for initial marksmanship training are discussed along with plans for follow-up USAR-sponsored research to assess (a) the impact of LMTS-based training on sustainment performance, and (b) the feasibility of using LMTS-based performance to predict live-fire qualification scores."--Stinet.

Survey of M16A1 Basic Rifle Marksmanship Current Procedures and Practices

Survey of M16A1 Basic Rifle Marksmanship Current Procedures and Practices PDF Author:

Book Description
The objective of Training Effectiveness (TEA) is to produce training improvements through analysis and redesign of the procedures and resources used to implement training. Accordingly, TRADOC directed the U.S. Army Infantry School (USAIS) to conduct a TEA for the M15A1 rifle. In support of the USAIS, the U.S. Army Research Institute (ARI) has initiated TEA-related research for this weapon. A major objective of the ARI research is to identify both short and long range improvements in the training process for M16A1 rifle marksmanship. One portion of this research is the development of a prototype criterion referenced, threat oriented Basic Rifle Marsmanship (BRM) training program. Based on research accomplished during 1976 and 1977, it apears that the immediate development of the prototype BRM program is premature and that certain intermediate research and development tasks remain to be completed before program development should be initiated. One of these tasks involves updating the existing information base for BRM training procedures and practices. This report presents the findings of a survey of BRM training as it is now implemented at four Army Training Centers and discusses in detail the various procedures, performance measures, diagnostics, remediation activities, training aids, and training materials used for this training. In addition, the report discusses the implications of the survey findings for improving the marksmanship training process.

Analysis of M16A1 Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training

Analysis of M16A1 Basic Rifle Marksmanship Training PDF Author:

Pages : 215

Book Description
During the Spring of 1976 the BRM Test, conducted at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, evaluated four basic rifle marksmanship (BRM) training programs: the Army Subject Schedule (ASUBJSCD), Fort Benning, Fort Dix, and Fort Jackson programs. One product of the test was a substantial quantity of individual difference and rifle firing data. These data are currently being analyzed to assess the effects of selected individual differences on BRM acquisition and terminal performance. The purpose of this report is to present the results of these analyses. The first is a molecular analysis of the Fort Benning and Fort Dix programs. The second is a molar analysis of the four BRM test programs. Finally, as a by-product of the analyses, descriptions of the four BRM Test programs were developed. These descriptions indicate the instruction and evaluation activities, training objectives, and training practices characteristics of each of the BRM test programs. Originator-supplied key words include: Basic rifle marksmanship; M16A1 rifle, Marksmanship conditions, Marksmanship criteria, Marksmanship standards, Marksmanship tasks, Marksmanship training, Rifle marksmanship training, Training conditions, Training standards, and Training tasks.
