Book Description
Fifteen sites of potential environmental concern, grouped into six waste management zones, were evaluated. A total of 22 monitor wells were installed and groundwater samples were obtained from each well. Soil samples were obtained for chemical analysis from 12 soil borings. Samples of surface water, bottom sediments and fish tissues were obtained from three ponds. All chemical analyses were accomplished in accordance with Standard USEPA analytical methods. Based on the sampling and analyses performed, levels of contamination were found in soils or groundwater at seven of the 15 sites evaluated which warrant further investigation and potential remedial actions. Recommendations were made as to appropriate follow-up site evaluation work at these seven sites.

Book Description
The Department(of Defense's Installation Restoration Program (IRP) is four-phase program to identify past waste disposal practices, evaluate the environmental impacts, propose mitigation measures, and remediate environmental problems. An IRP investigation is currently underway at AF Plant 4, Texas. Phase I, an initial assessment and records search to locate potential environmental problems associated with waste disposal practices, was completed in 1984. Phase II, a field program to investigate potential environmental contamination, has been under way since 1985 under the direction of the U.S. Air Force Occupational and Environmental Health Laboratory (USAFOEHL). Radian Corporation of Austin, Texas, has performed Stage 1 of the Phase II investigation which is reported in this document. Keywords: Installation restoration program, 4, Volatile organics.

Book Description
The Department of the Air Force has prepared an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis and assessment of environmental impact to respond to contaminated ground water in Operable Unit (OU) B at McClellan AFB, California. Proposed action involves: (1) installation of extraction wells; (2) extraction of contaminated ground water; (3) treatment of extracted groundwater; and (4) release of the treated groundwater. Additional ground water monitoring, abandonment of a contaminated production well, continued extraction from a production well, and restriction on the use of a third production well are also proposed as integral parts of the restoration and water reclamation activity. This action only covers short-term measures to reduce the potential for increased health risks from the migration of higher concentrations of contaminants to on- and off-base water supply wells.

Book Description
The overall objective of the Installation Restoration Program (IRP) Phase II investigation is to assess potential contamination at past hazardous waste disposal and spill sites on Air Force installations. A series of staged field investigations may be required to meet this objective. The intention of this staged investigation is to undertake a field and laboratory study at Air Force plant 59, Johnson City NY: (1) to confirm the presence or absence of contamination with in the specified areas of investigation; (2) if possible, to determine the extent and degree of contamination and the potential for migration of those contaminants in the various environmental media; (3) to identify public health and environmental hazards of migrating pollutants based on State or Federal standards for those contaminants; and (4) to delineate additional investigations required beyond this stage to reach the Phase II objectives. The Phase I IRP Report (mailed under separate cover) incorporate the background and description of the sites/zones for this task. Keywords: Hazardous materials wastes, Environmental protection. (MJM).

Book Description
The United States Air Force (USAF) is currently engaged in a program to identify and mitigate impacts resulting from past solid waste handling and disposal procedures at their facilities. This program is known as the Installation Restoration Program (IRP) and is composed of four phases. Phase II is a confirmation of the existence or absence of contamination which is divided into Stage 1 (qualitative) and Stage 2 (quantitative) investigations. This report defines the activities completed in Phase II, Stage 2-1 at McClellan Air Force Base California. It is divided into two volumes.

Book Description
As part of the USAF Installation Restoration Program (IRP), five sites on Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, were investigated to determine the presence of hazardous material contamination resulting from past handling and disposal practices. The five sites investigated were the Lagoon Landfill, B Street Landfill, the fire training area, a fuel hydrant system leak area, and the Entomology Shop yard. Investigations consisted of monitor well installations at the two landfills and soil borings at the other three sites. Ground water and soil samples were subjected to chemical analyses for screening level parameters. Indication of low-level contamination was found in the ground water below both landfills land in the soils of the fire training area. Additional sampling and analyses are recommended to define the nature of the contamination at those sites. (Author).

Book Description
Seven sites were investigated for contamination at McEntire ANGB during the Installation Restoration Program (IRP) Phase II Stage 1. Sites examined included two fire training areas, a sanitary landfill, a liquid waste storage area, an oil dump site, a C-141 spill trench, an unofficial dump site, and a drainage pond/swamp area. The Stage 1 field investigation involved the installation of 23 ground-water monitoring wells and the collection of numerous soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater samples. Samples were analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOC), total organic halogens (TOX), total organic carbon (TOC), arsenic and trace metals, oil and grease, total phosphorous, and nitrates. Field measurements of pH, specific conductance, and temperature were also made. Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) sampling and analysis, both in the field and in the laboratory, were integral parts of this effort. Elevated levels for contaminants were identified at 5 of the sites investigated. Contaminants were elevated in groundwater at 4 of the 6 sites where groundwater was examined. Elevated contaminant levels in soil and sediment samples were found at 4 of the 6 sites where these media were sampled. Two sites were without contamination in the media investigated. Elevated contaminant levels were found but not confirmed at the base water supply well W-1. Keywords: Groundwater; Water wells; Hazardous wastes; Pollution. (KT).
