Le diabète de type 1 est une pathologie auto-immune conduisant à la perte totale ou partielle des cellules bêta-pancréatiques. Sa prise en charge est globale, consistant à la mise en place d'une insulinothérapie, d'une éducation thérapeutique approfondie et d'un suivi à domicile de la glycémie. Malgré l'amélioration de la prise en charge du DT1 au cours des dernières années, cette pathologie reste un problème de santé publique majeur. C'est pourquoi de nombreuses innovations sont en cours de développement, ayant pour objectif de prévenir ou éviter le DT1, de mieux contrôler ses symptômes et même d'envisager une guérison des patients. Explorer la faisabilité et les stades de développement de ces innovations en comprenant les enjeux qui y sont associés, tant sur les plans économiques que technologiques. Des recherches bibliographiques ont été effectuées pour répondre à la problématique de ce travail. Afin d'optimiser la prise en charge du DT1 et l'atteinte des objectifs glycémiques, des innovations émergent en matière de prévention (axe 1), d'optimisation du traitement symptomatique (axe 2) et enfin de développement de traitements curatifs (axe 3). Dans chaque thématique, de nombreuses innovations voient le jour. Certaines ont prouvé de l'efficacité en phase préclinique ou en phase clinique et d'autres ont obtenu des autorisations de mise sur le marché. De manière générale, la plupart de ces innovations devront confirmer dans les années à venir leur efficacité à plus grande échelle et sur le plus long terme avant d'être démocratisées, d'autant plus que la majorité d'entre elles sont coûteuses. Elles devront donc démontrer leur bénéfice économique pour être adoptées à grande échelle. Si ces solutions surmontent les obstacles technologiques et économiques auxquelles elles font face, les patients atteints de DT1 devraient bénéficier au cours de la prochaine décennie d'une prise en charge améliorée, améliorant drastiquement leur qualité de vie.

Hence, planning for sustainable food production and consumption is becoming an increasingly important issue for planners, policymakers, designers, farmers, suppliers, activists, business and scientists alike. The rapid growth of the food planning movement owes much to the fact that food, because of its unique, multi-functional character, helps to bring people together from all walks of life. In the wider contexts of global climate change, resource depletion, a burgeoning world population, competing food production systems and diet-related public health concerns, new paradigms for urban and regional planning capable of supporting sustainable and equitable food systems are urgently needed. This book addresses this urgent need. By working at a range of scales and with a variety of practical and theoretical models, this book reviews and elaborates definitions of sustainable food systems, and begins to define ways of achieving them.
