The Howard Worner International Symposium on Injection in Pyrometallurgy

The Howard Worner International Symposium on Injection in Pyrometallurgy PDF Author: Madhu Milmani
Publisher: Minerals, Metals, & Materials Society
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 488

Book Description
Howard Worner is recognized as a pioneer in the development of the technique of injection in pyrometallurgy for metal processing. Injection processes offer improvements in productivity, energy consumption and environmental management, and have become much more important as the industry treats more complex materials and seeks to better manage wastes.

Foundry Processes

Foundry Processes PDF Author: Seymour Katz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 146131013X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 527

Book Description
For a number of years it has been a General Motors Research Laboratories custom to hold a symposium on a subject which is new and emerging, and to invite the best people in the world in that subject to come together to talk to each other. Initially, I had some difficulty in regarding foundry processes as a new and emerging subject. Copper alloys have been in foundry practice for about six thousand years. Foundrymen working with those alloys have been recognized, as such, for nearly all that time. Iron has a much shorter history, probably only three or four thousand years. So what's new? What is new is that a subject which has always been so complex and so difficult that it could only be a craft skill, with bits and pieces of knowledge and bits and pieces of insight, has begun to yield to new abilities to solve very complex problems. We do this now because we can handle great amounts of data by computational means, using new and more complicated theoretical treatments than we could deal with before. In fact, we have a new technology with which we can attack these terribly difficult problems. Thus, foundry processing is becoming a new subject because new things can be done with it.

Materials Handling in Pyrometallurgy

Materials Handling in Pyrometallurgy PDF Author: C. Twigge-Molecey
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483287394
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 238

Book Description
This book which describes the world of metallurgical processing is influenced by a variety of factors not directly metallurgical. One major factor in all applications is materials handling. In Pyro-metallurgical processes, the processes are interconnected by materials handling systems which often require a major percentage of plant cost. The systems include sampling, storage, weighing, feeding and transporting of materials which all actively affect the performance of the metallurgical processes. Increasing productivity and improvements to plant environment demand that materials handling be improved. At the same time, sophisticated sampling and control systems are required to optimize the recipes and allow controlled reactions. By using handling technologies that accommodate both the process and the environment, sustainable improvements can be made.
