Informative Psychometric Filters

Informative Psychometric Filters PDF Author: Robert A. M. Gregson
Publisher: ANU E Press
ISBN: 1920942661
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 322

Book Description
This book is a series of case studies with a common theme. Some refer closely to previous work by the author, but contrast with how they have been treated before, and some are new. Comparisons are drawn using various sorts of psychological and psychophysiological data that characteristically are particularly nonlinear, non-stationary, far from equilibrium and even chaotic, exhibiting abrupt transitions that are both reversible and irreversible, and failing to meet metric properties. A core idea is that both the human organism and the data analysis procedures used are filters, that may variously preserve, transform, distort or even destroy information of significance.

Chaos and Complexity in Psychology

Chaos and Complexity in Psychology PDF Author: Stephen J. Guastello
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139867261
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 1020

Book Description
While many books have discussed methodological advances in nonlinear dynamical systems theory (NDS), this volume is unique in its focus on NDS's role in the development of psychological theory. After an introductory chapter covering the fundamentals of chaos, complexity and other nonlinear dynamics, subsequent chapters provide in-depth coverage of each of the specific topic areas in psychology. A concluding chapter takes stock of the field as a whole, evaluating important challenges for the immediate future. The chapters are written by experts in the use of NDS in each of their respective areas, including biological, cognitive, developmental, social, organizational and clinical psychology. Each chapter provides an in-depth examination of theoretical foundations and specific applications and a review of relevant methods. This edited collection represents the state of the art in NDS science across the disciplines of psychology.

Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Psychometrics

Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Psychometrics PDF Author: Hong Jiao
Publisher: IAP
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
With the exponential increase of digital assessment, different types of data in addition to item responses become available in the measurement process. One of the salient features in digital assessment is that process data can be easily collected. This non-conventional structured or unstructured data source may bring new perspectives to better understand the assessment products or accuracy and the process how an item product was attained. The analysis of the conventional and non-conventional assessment data calls for more methodology other than the latent trait modeling. Natural language processing (NLP) methods and machine learning algorithms have been successfully applied in automated scoring. It has been explored in providing diagnostic feedback to test-takers in writing assessment. Recently, machine learning algorithms have been explored for cheating detection and cognitive diagnosis. When the measurement field promote the use of assessment data to provide feedback to improve teaching and learning, it is the right time to explore new methodology and explore the value added from other data sources. This book presents the use cases of machine learning and NLP in improving the assessment theory and practices in high-stakes summative assessment, learning, and instruction. More specifically, experts from the field addressed the topics related to automated item generations, automated scoring, automated feedback in writing, explainability of automated scoring, equating, cheating and alarming response detection, adaptive testing, and applications in science assessment. This book demonstrates the utility of machine learning and NLP in assessment design and psychometric analysis.

Distributed Systems and Applications of Information Filtering and Retrieval

Distributed Systems and Applications of Information Filtering and Retrieval PDF Author: Cristian Lai
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3642406211
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 155

Book Description
This volume focuses on new challenges in distributed Information Filtering and Retrieval. It collects invited chapters and extended research contributions from the special session on Information Filtering and Retrieval: Novel Distributed Systems and Applications (DART) of the 4th International Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Information Retrieval (KDIR 2012), held in Barcelona, Spain, on 4-7 October 2012. The main focus of DART was to discuss and compare suitable novel solutions based on intelligent techniques and applied to real-world applications. The chapters of this book present a comprehensive review of related works and state of the art. Authors, both practitioners and researchers, shared their results in several topics such as "Multi-Agent Systems", "Natural Language Processing", "Automatic Advertisement", "Customer Interaction Analytics", "Opinion Mining". Contributions have been careful reviewed by experts in the area, who also gave useful suggestions to improve the quality of the volume.

ISBN: 0444521038
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 1191

Book Description
This volume, representing a compilation of authoritative reviews on a multitude of uses of statistics in epidemiology and medical statistics written by internationally renowned experts, is addressed to statisticians working in biomedical and epidemiological fields who use statistical and quantitative methods in their work. While the use of statistics in these fields has a long and rich history, explosive growth of science in general and clinical and epidemiological sciences in particular have gone through a see of change, spawning the development of new methods and innovative adaptations of standard methods. Since the literature is highly scattered, the Editors have undertaken this humble exercise to document a representative collection of topics of broad interest to diverse users. The volume spans a cross section of standard topics oriented toward users in the current evolving field, as well as special topics in much need which have more recent origins. This volume was prepared especially keeping the applied statisticians in mind, emphasizing applications-oriented methods and techniques, including references to appropriate software when relevant. The contributors are internationally renowned experts in their respective areas. This volume addresses emerging statistical challenges in epidemiological, biomedical, and pharmaceutical research. It features: methods for assessing Biomarkers, analysis of competing risks; clinical trials including sequential and group sequential, crossover designs, cluster randomized, and adaptive designs; and, structural equations modelling and longitudinal data analysis.
