History of Nordic Computing 2

History of Nordic Computing 2 PDF Author: John Impagliazzo
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642037569
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 337

Book Description
The First Conference on the History of Nordic Computing (HiNC1) was organized in Trondheim, in June 2003. The HiNC1 event focused on the early years of computing, that is the years from the 1940s through the 1960s, although it formally extended to year 1985. In the preface of the proceedings of HiNC1, Janis Bubenko, Jr. , John Impagliazzo, and Arne Sølvberg describe well the peculiarities of early Nordic c- puting [1]. While developing hardware was a necessity for the first professionals, quite soon the computer became an industrial product. Computer scientists, among others, grew increasingly interested in programming and application software. P- gress in these areas from the 1960s to the 1980s was experienced as astonishing. The developments during these decades were taken as the focus of HiNC2. During those decades computers arrived to every branch of large and medium-sized businesses and the users of the computer systems were no longer only computer s- cialists but also people with other main duties. Compared to the early years of comp- ing before 1960, where the number of computer projects and applications was small, capturing a holistic view of the history between the 1960s and the 1980s is conside- bly more difficult. The HiNC2 conference attempted to help in this endeavor.

Decentralization

Decentralization PDF Author: Craig Calcaterra
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110674033
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Entrepreneurs as well as seasoned business leaders are struggling to innovate and stay ahead of change in the age of decentralization. What separates the companies that get disrupted from the ones that thrive when faced with decentralization? What tactics can be deployed to decentralize large monolithic organizations? Drawing on their experience as researchers and tech entrepreneurs, Professors Calcaterra and Kaal show how to Learn to embrace the change that comes with decentralization Evolve technology, communication, and culture as the business encounters decentralization Use best practices to maintain profitability in the emerging environments of decentralization across industries Combine responsibility with velocity to leverage the advantages of decentralization for the common good The book examines the core infrastructure elements that are needed before the first genuinely decentralized transaction can happen including a legal environment, underwriting, a truly decentralized blockchain that can overcome the blockchain trilemma (decentralization, scaling, security), and efficient governance of blockchains. Decentralization is essential reading for businesses seeking to win in an increasingly decentralized world where adaptation speed is the competitive advantage that matters most.

Integrating Information Systems in a Major Decentralized International Organization

Integrating Information Systems in a Major Decentralized International Organization PDF Author: Amar Gupta
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computer networks
Languages : en
Pages : 289

Book Description
This volume examines the problems involved in integrating information systems currently in use in a large decentralized international organization. It is divided into three parts. The first part, A Conceptual Model for Integrated Autonomous Processing, highlights the fact that the technical strategy was modulated by three key conflicting organizational forces - autonomy, integration, and evolution. A conceptual system architecture has been developed to provide a technological message-oriented and data-oriented response to meet the organizational needs. The second part, Gaining Strategic Advantage Through Composite Information Systems, identified critical success factors for the successful deployment of Composite Information Systems (CIS) ideas and techniques. For this environment, a data-driven strategy offers the best chances for successful development of a modular and flexible infrastructure suited to the decentralized and highly autonomous structure of the organization. The third part, Integrating Systems for Financial Institutions Services Using Composite Information Systems, analyzes the three key organizational forces in greater detail. Autonomy, for example, is examined in terms of hardware control, operational control, transaction control, software control, data control, and management control. The forces of integration and evolution are also decomposed in a similar vein. The case study reveals that the operations of the organization can be improved by more foresight in certain areas. Keywords: Knowledge Based integrated information systems engineering(KBIISE). (KR).

Book Description
This book is a result of the Tenth International Conference on Information Systems Development (ISD2001) held at Royal Holloway, University of London, United Kingdom, during September 5-7, 2001. ISD 2001 carries on the fine tradition established by the first Polish-Scandinavian Seminar on Current Trends in Information Systems Development Methodologies, held in Gdansk, Poland in 1988. Through the years, this seminar evolved into an International Conference on Information Systems Development. The Conference gives participants an opportunity to express ideas on the current state of the art in information systems development, and to discuss and exchange views on new methods, tools, applications as well as theory. In all, 55 papers were presented at ISD2001 organised into twelve tracks covering the following themes: Systems Analysis and Development, Modelling, Methodology, Database Systems, Collaborative Systems, Theory, Knowledge Management, Project Management, IS Education, Management issues, E-Commerce. and Technical Issues. We would like to thank all the contributing authors for making this book possible and for their participation in ISD200 1. We are grateful to our panel of paper reviewers for their help and support.
