Influence of Large Amounts of Wing Sweep on Stability and Control Problems of Aircraft PDF Author: Hartley Akin Soule

Book Description
The use of large amounts of sweep has been suggested in this country and in Germany as a means of avoiding some of the drag increase and stability and control difficulties encountered in high-speed flight with conventional straight-wing airplanes. Experience with sweep in tailless airplanes and studies made since this suggested has been made have indicated that the use of a large amount of sweep will, in itself, introduce stability and control problems of sufficient magnitude and complexity to require considerable research, particularly for flight at high angles of attack. The paper discusses these problems and, although no proved solutions are given, in some cases promising lines for further investigation are presented.

Experimental Aerodynamic Derivatives of a Sinusoidally Oscillating Airfoil in Two-dimensional Flow

Experimental Aerodynamic Derivatives of a Sinusoidally Oscillating Airfoil in Two-dimensional Flow PDF Author: Robert L. Halfman
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerofoils
Languages : en
Pages : 752

Book Description
Experimental measurements of the aerodynamic reactions on a symmetrical airfoil oscillating harmonically in a two-dimensional flow are presented and analyzed in this paper. Harmonic motions include pure pitch and pure translation, for several amplitudes and superimposed on an initial angle of attack, as well as combined pitch and translation. Considerable consistent data for pure pitch were obtained from a search of available reference material, and several definite Reynolds number effects are evident.

Tests of Six Types of Bakelite-bonded Wire Strain Gages

Tests of Six Types of Bakelite-bonded Wire Strain Gages PDF Author: William R. Campbell
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Strain gages
Languages : en
Pages : 690

Book Description
Tests were made to determine the important performance characteristics for six types of bakelite-bonded wire strain gages commercially available and in current use by the aircraft industry. Results on the following characteristics are presented: (1) uniformity of calibration factors for individual gages of the same type, (2) variation of calibration factor with temperature, (3) creep, (4) effect of current on gage resistance, and (5) variation of gage resistance with temperature.
