It’s about the mysteries and wonders of why we are here. The author’s studies and research into spirituality and religion have led him to find common ground between them. The premise of this book is based on his interpretation and understanding of the three main aspects of spirituality; the “Body”, the “Soul” and the “Link” which connects them. Part One “The Body”: Explains the basic understanding of how the physical body works in conjunction with thoughts, emotions and the decision making process. He believes the first steps to a healthy and balanced lifestyle is to listen to your intuition, stop and take a breath before reacting, and understanding the life force and how it can be utilized in your daily life. Part Two “The Soul”: How understanding the different aspect of your soul, which includes your inner self, is the foundation for your spiritual path. This will develop a spiritual awareness which in turn will give you the tools and opportunities to make decisions in your life with purpose. Part Three “The Link”: By understanding and utilizing the many ways your body and soul communicate is the core to spiritual growth. Listening to your intuition, being self-aware, living in the present moment and making conscious choices with loving intent, is the path to health and balance. Throughout these chapters, the author provides simple techniques and exercises that can be used in your daily life to help you connect and keep you on your spiritual quest. * The author will be donating 50% of his royalties to various charities that are in need.

Body & Soul

Body & Soul PDF Author: J. P. Moreland
Publisher: InterVarsity Press
ISBN: 0830874593
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 385

Book Description
While most people throughout history have believed that we are both physical and spiritual beings, the rise of science has called into question the existence of the soul. Many now argue that neurophysiology demonstrates the radical dependence, indeed, identity, between mind and brain. Advances in genetics and in mapping human DNA, some say, show there is no need for the hypothesis of body-soul dualism. Even many Christian intellectuals have come to view the soul as a false Greek concept that is outdated and unbiblical. Concurrent with the demise of dualism has been the rise of advanced medical technologies that have brought to the fore difficult issues at both edges of life. Central to questions about abortion, fetal research, reproductive techologies, cloning and euthanasia is our understanding of the nature of human personhood, the reality of life after death and the value of ethical or religious knowledge as compared to scientific knowledge. In this careful treatment, J. P. Moreland and Scott B. Rae argue that the rise of these problems alongside the demise of Christian dualism is no coincidence. They therefore employ a theological realism to meet these pressing issues, and to present a reasonable and biblical depiction of human nature as it impinges upon critical ethical concerns. This vigorous philosophical and ethical defense of human nature as body and soul, regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees, will be for all a touchstone for debate and discussion for years to come.

Are We Bodies Or Souls?

Are We Bodies Or Souls? PDF Author: Richard Swinburne
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA
ISBN: 0198831498
Category : Human beings
Languages : en
Pages : 195

Book Description
What are humans? What makes us who we are? Many think that we are just complicated machines, or animals that are different from machines only by being conscious. In Are We Bodies or Souls? Richard Swinburne comes to the defence of the soul and presents new philosophical arguments that are supported by modern neuroscience. When scientific advances enable neuroscientists to transplant a part of brain into a new body, he reasons, no matter how much we can find out about their brain activity or conscious experiences we will never know whether the resulting person is the same as before or somebody entirely new. Swinburne thus argues that we are immaterial souls sustained in existence by our brains. Sensations, thoughts, and intentions are conscious events in our souls that cause events in our brains. While scientists might discover some of the laws of nature that determine conscious events and brain events, each person's soul is an individual thing and this is what ultimately makes us who we are.

Body and Soul in Ancient Philosophy

Body and Soul in Ancient Philosophy PDF Author: Dorothea Frede
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3110216523
Category : Philosophy
Languages : de
Pages : 573

Book Description
The problem of body and soul has a long history that can be traced back to the beginnings of Greek culture. The existential question of what happened to the soul at the moment of death, whether and in what form there is life after death, and of the exact relationship between body and soul was answered in different ways in Greek philosophy, from the early days to Late Antiquity. The contributions in this volume not only do justice to the breadth of the topic, they also cover the entire period from the Pre-Socratics to Late Antiquity. Particular attention is paid to Plato, Aristotle and Hellenistic philosophers, that is the Stoics and the Epicureans.

Soul Friends

Soul Friends PDF Author: Stephen Cope
Publisher: Hay House, Inc
ISBN: 1401946526
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 377

Book Description
"Most of us will have many friends throughout our lifetimes—friends of all shapes, sizes, and callings. Many of these are wonderful, meaningful friendships. Some are difficult. But some magic few of these are connections that have gone right to our soul. These five or seven or ten friendships have been powerful keys to determining who we have become and who we will become. . . . These are the people I call Soul Friends." As the Senior Scholar-in-Residence for over 25 years at the renowned Kripalu Center, Stephen Cope has spent decades investigating—and writing about—the integration of body, mind, and spirit and the rich complexity of our relationships with others, and with ourselves. Perhaps the central truth that arises from his work is this: human beings are universally wired for one thing—vital connection with one another.Soul Friends invites us on a compelling journey into the connectivity of the human psyche, the study of which has fascinated scholars, philosophers, and thinkers for centuries. Cope seamlessly blends science, scholarship, and storytelling, drawing on his own life as well as the histories of famous figures—from Eleanor Roosevelt to Charles Darwin to Queen Victoria—whose formative relationships shed light on the nature of friendship itself. In his exploration, he distills human connection into six distinct yet interconnected mechanisms: containment, twinship, adversity, mirroring, identification, and conscious partnership. Then he invites us to reflect on how these forms of connection appear in our own lives, helping us work toward a fuller understanding of "who we have become and who we will become."Without a doubt, the journey to our most fulfilled selves requires us to look within. But in order to truly thrive, we must make the most of who we are in relation to one another as well. Unsparingly honest, deeply wise, and irresistibly readable, Soul Friends gives us a map to find our way.

Where Outside the Body Is the Soul Today

Where Outside the Body Is the Soul Today PDF Author: Melissa Kwasny
Publisher: University of Washington Press
ISBN: 0295742453
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 97

Book Description
Where Outside the Body Is the Soul Today comprises two interwoven series—one of linked prose poems called “Another Letter to the Soul” and one of individual lined poems that explore the connection between anima and animal. The volume speaks to and questions the ancient concept of the soul and its contemporary manifestations, including the damaged soul, the American soul, and the blind, gagged soul of history. Melissa Kwasny does not define the soul in traditional religious terms, but in a shamanic, perhaps ecological sense, as the part of being that continues its existence after death. The poems in “Another Letter to the Soul” point inward, addressing the human soul directly, while the individual lined poems search outward, sensing the soul in the plants, animals, rocks, waters, and winds that surround us.

Porphyry’s Place in the Neoplatonic Tradition

Porphyry’s Place in the Neoplatonic Tradition PDF Author: A. Smith

Book Description
This book is a slightly emended version of a dissertation presented at the University of Hull in 1972. I realise only too well the deficiencies of style, presentation and material which this involves. The title implies a more final note than I had intended in my treatment of Porphyry. On reflexion, however, it seemed the most suited to convey the general purpose of my enquiries. A more rounded assessment of Porphyry can come only after some more basic work has been completed. An edition of his philosophical fragments, to which I am now turning my attention, is a prerequisite. lowe, of course, a great deal to all those who have written on NeoƯ platonism. I am particularly indebted to Prof. Willy Theiler under whose guidance I studied in Bern. Conversation with him always resulted in new directions of enquiry and I was constantly stimulated by his breadth of knowledge. I must also thank Prof. A.H. Armstrong who has constantly encouraged me and helped me to look more deeply into a number of problems. Welcome, too, was a detailed criticism of Part Two by Dr. R.T. Wallis. Their criticism and advice have not always been followed and the responsibility for the faults and weakƯ nesses of this book rests on myself.
