A generous destiny enabled me to visitt those attractive islands and to gain an insight not only into the delightful customs of the great common people, but into the arts and the industries, and into the beautiful and touching worship of ancestors as well. In the following simple and impartial recital of what I saw and did in the course of a pleasurable tour, I have endeavored not to increase the bulk of the volume by extraneous digression or by my own reflections.
