Pages : 86
Book Description
The two principle objectives of the research were (1) to test and compare computer simulations of traffic signal systems, and then to make field verifications; and (2) to verify the ability of computer simulation methods to predict accurately the effects of signal timing modifications. A variety of methods was employed in different combinations. two grid networks were used as test sites: a 26-intersection site in Los Angeles (peak hour flows, 175-1475) and a 22-intersection site in San Jose (peak hour flows, 250-1200).

Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 48
Book Description
A preliminary examination of existing traffic signals was conducted on simple intersections of four lanes crossing four lanes. The research tasks performed were 1. review of prior research, 2. formulation of a preliminary model, 3. testing and refining the model, and 4. examination of controllers and control techniques. A comprehensive bibliography was assembled and studied.

Improved Criteria for Traffic Signal Systems on Urban Arterials
Author: Frederick A. Wagner
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Digital computer simulation
Languages : en
Pages : 55
Book Description
Research was conducted on the development and comprehensive, closely controlled, scientific testing of several advanced concepts for operating traffic-signal systems on urban arterial streets. Using established traffic-simulation methods, a total of 11 alternative signal-operation test conditions in a pilot study arterial system were thoroughly evaluated. Subjected to tests were four strategic (fixed-time) control concepts applied in various combinations, one traffic-adjusted control concept, one experimental traffic-responsive concept, and one special mixed-cycle version of a strategic control concept. A total of 100 hours of traffic operation were simulated to produce statistically reliable results in conjunction with the effectiveness tests of alternatives.

Traffic Control Systems Handbook
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Electronic traffic controls
Languages : en
Pages : 670
Book Description
This handbook, which was developed in recognition of the need for the compilation and dissemination of information on advanced traffic control systems, presents the basic principles for the planning, design, and implementation of such systems for urban streets and freeways. The presentation concept and organization of this handbook is developed from the viewpoint of systems engineering. Traffic control studies are described, and traffic control and surveillance concepts are reviewed. Hardware components are outlined, and computer concepts, and communication concepts are stated. Local and central controllers are described, as well as display, television and driver information systems. Available systems technology and candidate system definition, evaluation and implementation are also covered. The management of traffic control systems is discussed.
